He can make a solar still to distil saltwater from the sea instead; might be better since they're not collecting much condensation! For that he needs to basically dig a hole, fill it with vegetation of whatever sort they can find, pour seawater in, then use the tarp to cover and a container settled inside to catch the clean water that condenses on the tarp (he has a glass beer bottle and iirc they both found some water bottles anyway). (me and my terrible understanding after 3 minutes of googling with adhd)
