The berries taste vaguely sweet with a distinct, sour aftertaste. Nothing terrible happens to Squalo immediately after he eats them.

As long as Squalo is careful about it and sticks to the worn-out patches of dirt on the makeshift path, he can descend to the lake's edge easily enough, and get back up without too much extra trouble. The water is very warm and has an odd, almost artificial blue tint to it when bottled.
