IC DATES: Day 11 --> Morning 12 STARTING SQUARE: III.F.20 ENDING SQUARE: III.F.20 or nearby DETAILS:
Maybe later! Right now, he's got other shit to attend to. He will remember that it seemed like it was working, though, and he'll return to that project whenever he has some downtime.
Quick q about the treated wood panels - what are they treated with? Can you tell? What kind of wood are they or what style are they made in? What size are they? Do they look like they might've originally been part of some structure or vehicle (like, part of a house or boat or something)? I'm assuming yes on the last thing since it specifics 'panels' and not 'boards', but jw.
First order of business: dump out the grenadine from the bottle he found and rinse it out, so Rust can show him how to make a DIY water filter.
Once that's done, they'll go to the bathing spot Lalo found to get clean. Rust hasn't bathed in 11 days. Eeyuck. 'Nuff said. They'll try to bathe together, but Lalo's poor bisexual heart won't be able to take it, so he'll kick Rust out to be the lookout while he finishing washing up. Then they'll switch. Rust will take a bath (finally), and Lalo will be the lookout.
They'll build a small fire and also wash + dry their clothes. RIP, Lalo. He'll try to find a big enough banana leaf or... something... to cover himself with, or something. If he can't find anything, he'll distract himself by cooking the sunfish they caught with some garlic. Yum!
Once their clothes are dry (or mostly dry, anyway- Lalo is desperate enough that he probably puts his back on while they're still slightly damp in places), they will put the fire out for the time being, and Lalo will switch his attention to making a lean-to.
He'll first look for the best + safest place to put a shelter, taking into account keeping it in a safe/sheltered area out of the view of predators (animal or otherwise); keeping it safely out of high tide; finding a place with a stable enough ground foundation to support a light shelter like the kind he's trying to make; and also staying some distance from the river, since putting it right by the river feels like making it a target. He also won't want to build it too far inside the jungle in any direction, due to Shaw's post. HOPEFULLY he can still find a good place to put it with all those stipulations, lol.
Oh, and Rust can help if he feels like it! But look look LOOK at him carrying this heavy thing, Rust, aren't you impressed with him?! It's okay if you aren't - he's impressed with himself, anyway.
He'll do this until dusk, at which point he will switch to... fishing! Rust will help too. When they're done with that, Lalo will start a fire against Rust's objections ("Aaah, don't worry about it! It'll be fine."). Rust will pretend to be won over by this idea, then hide a safe distance away to make sure Lalo doesn't get got.
Lalo will dig a small hole and light the fire inside of it, to hide the light from the fire as much as he can from anyone who might be looking for such things, and keep it burning quick and hot to minimize smoke. He'll cook the fish if he caught any, if he didn't, then he'll grill up a plantain. He'll do all of this as quickly as he can, then put the fire out as soon as he's done.
Also, he'll be doing this some distance from their shelter. He doesn't want the fire and the shelter right next to each other.
After he's done cooking dinner with 🤞 hopefully 🤞 no incidents (BIG MONEY, NO GREMLINS), Lalo will put out the fire and head back to the shelter so they can eat there. Despite his confidence that their friend Cabin Gremlin won't make an appearance, he has no intention of staying by the fire for longer than he has to.
After he eats, he'll go to bed but not to sleep. In bed, he'll spend 1 - 2 hours laying there and messing with the paperclip in the handcuffs, trying to see if he can get it to work as a makeshift lock. If he still can't get it to work after 2 hours, he'll give up for now and take turns sleeping in shifts with Rust, with each of them taking turns acting as a lookout while the other sleeps.
