IC DATES: Day 24 - Morning 25 🙏🙏🙏 STARTING SQUARE: VII.S.7 ENDING SQUARE: DETAILS: Rust will walk Lalo to VII.S.8 or thereabouts and force him to do freeform ASCII, puzzle over it a while, then break both his knees. As you do. He’ll leave him his clothes (including his shoes) and walkie but take everything else in his inventory, dumping anything he doesn’t have a use for in the river (don’t tell the EPA).
He’ll quickly retrace his steps back along the river (due southwest). He’ll be moving with all possible speed, focused on finding a good crossing point. That said, he’ll still be on the lookout for obvious signs of something hot on his and Lalo’s trail (fresh tracks, arrows that suspiciously weren’t there before, etc.) He’ll also stop at last night’s “campsite” (VII.O.9) to search thoroughly for any evidence of a special someone stopping by again.
Even after getting rid of unnecessary crap he’s still carrying a lot of shit for one person (including that cryptic elephant bone…), so that may hamper his movements.
Assuming he’s able to cross the river, (he has a couple raincoats and a tent cover he can wrap his abundant supplies in, if things are looking dicey), he’ll drop a bunch of supplies off—or rather, find a branch to hang the bags from so they’re not looted by coconut crabs—and look for a tree to climb to get the lay of the land.
That done, he’ll reunite with the supplies and look for a big ol tree with roots that might allow him to hide something beneath it. Using the garden trowel, he’ll try to dig a decently deep root-augmented hole, in which he’ll bury: Lalo’s (acquired) handcuffs, Lalo’s gun (sans bullets), one of Lalo's shivs, and a tin of hair gel 🙄, all of it wrapped in Lalo’s blood-streaked bandana. He’ll carve the markings from the elephant bone into the tree trunk. (OBVIOUSLY HALF OF THIS WILL DISAPPEAR SHORTLY but if at all possible I’d like to time the item-stashing before Lalo’s death.) Rust will also take the time to cut the hood off one of the raincoats and draw the markings from the elephant bone and an approximation of Lalo's bootprint on it in permanent marker (for his own personal use).
GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT TIME IT IS BY NOW—if there’s still some daylight left, Rust’ll head vaguely northwest, wanting to stick near the river without following it. He’ll search thoroughly for traps and signs of struggle while working to create a trail to the cache of items by carving little arrow-esque notches in trees along the way. A couple hours before nightfall, however, he’ll abandon this and try to get as far as possible from whatever trail he’s created—even if it involves doubling back—then find a tree to climb for the night, where he’ll sit vigil and eat some elephant jerky.
