The fruit smells a bit like a sweeter durian - like a damp armpit full of sugar. It's not alarming, necessarily, but it's kind of unpleasant to take a deep whiff of it. If Squalo is still brave enough to take a nibble, it...actually tastes unobjectionable, if kind of weirdly savory and stringy. He won't notice any weird effects from eating a piece.
Squalo's light sleeping habits will alert him to many nighttime animal noises from the thick jungle nearby - squawks, roars, howls, and much closer by, the deep rumble of a crocodile from the direction of the northern river bank. Thankfully, none of these noises seem to lead to anything aside from a tense, restless evening.
