The cell door is all bars set in a metal frame, which presumably all moves as a single unit. There also isn't a physical locking mechanism as far as Martin can find; the deadbolts must be engaged exclusively from the electronic pad next to the cell (or there's another means that Martin can't see from his behind-bars vantage).
