GENERAL

What is this game about?
Glencola Reef is a panfandom adventure/exploration sandbox game. Characters are dropped onto an apparently deserted tropical island on an Earth-like planet, depowered and with barely any possessions, and with no information about how they arrived or why they're here. They will have to work with the resources they find on the island - and potentially with others - in order to survive natural phenomena, unnatural threats, and hopefully, answer the "whys" and "hows" of their predicament so they can eventually go home. Most events are heavily player-driven, with a majority slotted to occur only after certain clues have been found or certain areas have been investigated, among other things. The players are ultimately in control of how the island develops.

What are the themes of this game?
Adventure: Action and dangerous situations should be expected and can occur at any time. Serious injury and death are not uncommon, but discoveries of strange and wonderful things are just as plentiful.

Exploration: Characters' activities will depend heavily on where they happen to be on the map and how they travel across it. At game start, the setting is totally wild and unknown; it's up to the players to figure out where things are, how to get to otherwise inaccessible areas, and to avoid the dangers they find.

Sandbox: The map is, for the most part, completely malleable; it is expected and encouraged for characters to make modifications to the setting based on the resources they have or need, in order to defend themselves, stay safe from the elements, or just to have a common place to call home.

Isolation: The map is big. Characters are dropped off at random locations on it when they first arrive or are revived, and their movements are limited by local geography and weather. Combined with a low character cap, the chances of running into other characters randomly (or getting to someone in need quickly) are slim. This will put an emphasis on communications over the local network, and is intended to make the few, in-person interactions characters do have all the more significant.

Science Fiction: A lot of inspiration for the setting comes from games like Stranded Deep and Subnautica - thalassophobia with a mix of alien mystery. While the fact that this is a panfandom jamjar means plots will inevitably range over many different genres, the overarching game plot is definitely rooted in science fiction.

Are there any topics that aren't allowed?
Technically no! Per the rules, all players must be 18+ to join, so mature topics (smut/potentially triggering subjects) are allowed on the main communities - provided that content warnings/cuts are used and permissions posts are respected. Failing to appropriately tag/hide your content will result in strikes up to a ban for repeat offenders.

How do new characters arrive?
Characters wake up on a random point along the island's beaches. The first wave of characters will all arrive at the same time of day (just before noon), but after that, the time of day will be randomly assigned as well. They will have no memory of how they got here, or any concept of how long they've been unconscious.

What do characters arrive with?
Whatever they were wearing at the point they were taken from their universe. This includes things like jewelry, prosthetics, stuff in their pockets, or attached to a belt or holster; this does not include things like backpacks, armor, or large weapons/attachments strapped to their back. Items that are fueled by supernatural connections or energy (a lightsaber, or a magic gun) could arrive, but they would no longer function. Similarly, most modern technology (smartphones) can be brought over, but without a way to charge them and with no satellite uplinks/cellphone towers/etc., they very likely won't work well or at all in several days. If you're not sure about something, ask! Or simply put it in your app - I'll go through them and determine case-by-case what can be brought, what will be left behind, and what will be limited in function.

They will also arrive with a military-grade walkie-talkie, with functions described in more detail in the next section.

Do characters keep their powers/superhuman abilities/magic?
Nope! All characters arrive at as close to human baseline as is possible for them to survive. I will leave this up to the player to determine how they accomplish this; your character made of pure chaos energy could arrive in a human body, or stay as a featureless orb that can still interact with the environment like a normal human but lack their chaos energy powers, or something else along those lines. Be creative - and if you're not sure your idea will work, ask!

What if my character arrives just before/after dying/with critical injuries/a life-threatening illness?
I'll also leave this up to the player to resolve. Just note that, if your character is critically injured and on the brink of death, chances are slim that they'll be rescued or receive the care they need to survive. It's also entirely up to the player if they choose to have their character arrive with or without chronic illnesses, addictions, prosthetics/missing limbs, etc. If you do choose to hard-mode things with, say, an entity that feeds only on electricity, search requests may spontaneously change to include batteries with a trickle of charge. It won't be easy, but the setting is flexible to the challenges players want to bring to their characters.

Can my character bring their bonded animal/spiritual companion?
No - but both sides of those pairs can be applied for as standalone characters. This rule could apply to characters like Ash and Pikachu, or Jotaro Kujo and Star Platinum. As usual, ask if you aren't sure!

MECHANICS

Is there a network? How does it function?
The game network ([community profile] reefnet) is accessible via military-style handheld radio transceivers. Characters arrive with one of these devices, generally in a shade of dull tan, green, or black (up to individual preference), and though they have no compulsion to keep them on their person, they will always show back up if the character is revived from death, returning from a canon update/hiatus, or is reapplied after being dropped/swept. The network interface itself is visible on the radio's screen as a list of callsigns unique to each character; the keypad can be used to scroll through this list and select any number of callsigns individually to send private or locked messages. If no callsigns are selected, the message can be heard/seen by all members of the network.

As these are walkie-talkies, messages are sent via voice by default, and incoming messages - private or public - are proceeded in real-time with a brief burst of static followed by a notification chirp from the device. The messages themselves do not play unless the receiver acknowledges them, either by clicking the "talk" button on the side of the device (which will play the oldest received, unread message first, regardless of source) or by navigating to the "conversations" tab on the screen (indicated by an envelope icon on the menu bar) and selecting individual messages from the list to play or view. Messages that are more than 24 hours old are automatically cleared from this list.

Characters have the choice to type their messages instead of speaking them using the keypad. Regardless of if the message was spoken or typed, a written transcript of the message will be available on the "conversations" tab, and all purely text messages can be played with a monotone, genderless voice using the "talk" button. At this time, video messages are unavailable.

How do callsigns work? Are they like usernames?
Callsigns are tied to a specific transceiver, and always follow the format AB123C. Characters do not pick their callsign - at least, not at this time.

What if my character is trying to be stealthy and their communicator is blowing up?
The walkie-talkies have a volume nob that can be used to mute incoming notifications (or make them very loud if you want to play a prank on someone).

Are there emotes? Gifs??
Sadly no - all memes are currently restricted to text smileys and ASCII art. The text-to-voice program will try to sound them out, though.

How do characters understand each other/what if my character can't read?
Somehow, all characters seem to understand each other's languages and can intuitively understand any written text present on their communications device. Characters will interpret everyone else as speaking in their preferred language; characters fluent in several languages can pick whichever one they want for any given situation. It doesn't take a lot of conscious thought to swear or use other cultural-specific epithets that can't be easily translated, and people listening will automatically understand the intent, even if they don't quite understand the word(s) used. An illiterate character will not magically understand all writing, or writing on someone else's transceiver, just their own.

My character doesn't have human hands/opposable thumbs/tangible limbs! How do they use their communicators?
The walkie-talkies have tactile enough buttons to be used with paws, teeth, or firm nose-presses and the like - it might be a bit difficult to navigate, but not impossible.

Can the transceivers be upgraded so they suck less?
They can! How characters can go about this will have to be investigated in-game. Characters have, at this point, discovered various attachments that can be inserted into different plugin locations on the tops of their transceivers. Each one has a SD-style slot, a USB-style port, and a screw-in signal jack. Some attachments use only one of these slots, while others use multiple slots at a time. Only one upgrade can be installed per slot; if your character has a module plugged into the USB port, and they find another that uses both the USB and signal ports, they will have to remove the first to use the second. Transceiver skins count as upgrades, but don't monopolize any slots.

Can my character take apart/destroy their transceiver/someone else's transceiver?
They can certainly try.

Why are the maps totally blank?
Exploration is a driving theme in this game, so the maps will start under a complete "fog of war" until characters start submitting search requests to reveal them. The tiles that characters travel over will count as "revealed" with a certain radius of "visible" tiles around them uncovering the local terrain as they go along. The number of tiles that characters can travel in a day, how far they can see as they travel, and how they can investigate or modify each tile is explained in more detail on the Search Requests page.

That sounds really involved! What if I mess up a search request?
I know, and don't worry! While search requests are required as part of joining this game, players can choose to lean into this mechanic as much or as little as they want to. If you want to run the numbers for every tile in every weather condition and submit multiple requests per month, go for it! If you want to handwave a starting point and destination, that's also fine! Just note that more vague descriptions of movement will give the mod more leeway to choose your character's path, and it might not always be favorable. There are no penalties for making mistakes in search requests. This includes instant death from unseen/forgotten hazards; calculation mistakes will be addressed before results of the search request are written, and potential dangers that appear in a character's path will always include an escape route that they can choose to take before barreling headlong into danger. The only exception to this is if a player knowingly puts their character into a fatal situation - if you want your character to try to dive into a lava pit to search for hidden passages, they are definitely going to die.

I forgot to submit a search request/I was on hiatus for part of the month. What happens to my character?
Retroactive search requests can be submitted for characters without penalty. Alternatively, days between search requests can be skipped; the assumption will be that the character stayed put during this time. Please note, however, that search requests submitted for previous months cannot be used for the current month's AC.

What's the timescale like in-game?
Glencola Reef operates on a 1:3 1:6 day timescale, which splits days into morning (4AM -> 11:59AM), afternoon/evening (12PM -> 7:59PM), and night (8PM -> 3:59AM). This is mostly to facilitate search requests; traveling at certain times of day will change how far characters can move or see, for example, and I want to provide players with the most time possible to play out IC interactions/plan for future search requests without falling super far behind on IC time. If you're ever confused about what day it is in-game, the Calendar will track this information, along with weather conditions, movement calculations, and planned events.

What happens when characters get hurt/sick?
While you can make your own determinations for how the environment (or another character) affects your characters, sometimes characters will be injured or fall ill due to random events rolled during search requests, or as a result of events. Random-rolled injuries and illness will temporarily hamper movement, with penalties dependent on the severity of the injury.

Type
IC Duration
Movement Penalty
Minor 3 days None
Moderate 5 days 1 square
Serious 4 days 2 squares
Severe 3 days 3 squares
Critical 1 day No unassisted movement

Injuries will reduce to the next lowest type on the above list at the end of the IC duration time. So, for example, if a character suffers a moderate injury on Day 005, they will heal to a minor injury on Day 010, then heal completely on Day 013. Injuries may have other search-request-related impacts depending on the situation and current events separate from movement penalties listed here.

What happens when characters die?
They get better! Death is not permanent here. A deceased character's body will suddenly disappear an hour after death, leaving behind any possessions they did not arrive with (with the exception of attachments to their transceivers). At some point in the near future - usually the next morning at sunrise - the characters will wash up on a random section of beach somewhere on the island with their starting possessions and walkie-talkie. Whether or not they show any signs of the injuries that killed them (or any other consequences) will depend on certain Plot Factors that the characters will have to investigate themselves. The time it takes for a character to be revived, plus any interesting notes for their revival, will be addressed on the Character Death page.

What happens when characters are put on hiatus/canon updated?
Players can approach this in one of two ways:
  • The character dies and is not revived for an unusually long time.
  • The character mysteriously disappears, dropping all of their possessions obtained since arrival, then appears on the beach at a later date as if they had died and been revived.
In either event, potential death consequences will not be processed in these instances - I don't want anyone to feel like they're being punished for needing to take a hiatus or the like.

What happens when characters are dropped?
By default, the character simply disappears and does not come back, as if they were put on hiatus/canon updated without death attached to the event. Players can choose to specify if they want to associate a fatal event with their drop instead.

What will other characters see during one of these "mysterious disappearances?"
If a character about to be hiatused/canon-updated/dropped is under constant surveillance, there will be a point where the surveilling character(s) will have their attention split elsewhere, and when they look back, the individual will be gone. This is the same for when a character dies; if their body is being observed, it will simply vanish in a moment of inattention, leaving behind a pile of their obtained belongings. If a character's body is dismembered post-mortem, cremated, or otherwise being used for other things, its individual, unobserved components will start to disappear until nothing is left.

SETTING

What is the island like, generally speaking?
Tropical, from an Earth standpoint. The weather is quite warm, ranging between 90F/32C during the afternoon to 60F/16C at night. The ocean water is consistently temperate. The island is rimmed with sandy beaches surrounding a dense rainforest interior, which slopes upwards to a series of mountain peaks in the distant center - not tall enough to be snowcapped, but high enough that they're discolored from lack of trees. Afternoon showers are spontaneous, common, but short-lived, with rarely enough of an impact to impair travel.

How about the area surrounding the island?
The ocean stretches out to the horizon, where a thick, dark line seems to abruptly cut it off, but it's too fuzzy and faint to make out exactly what it is.

Is this Earth?
Evidence would point to that conclusion - there's one small, yellow star, one Earth-like moon, constellations match what would be seen at Earth's equator (at game start they are in their early spring positions), the days are the Earth-standard 24 hours long, gravity and pressure are equivalent to Earth's, so on and so forth. How far those similarities go will be up to the characters to find out.

Are there any materials that are readily available, that we can handwave our characters having access to?
This depends somewhat on their location on the island, but for the most part characters can easily gain access to sand, dirt, fallen branches and leaves, seawater, and enough rainwater to (uncomfortably) stay hydrated while idle.

This section is kind of sparse...where's all the worldbuilding??
There's still a lot for characters to figure out about where they've ended up and what's available to them. As they do more investigating, this section will be updated to reflect those discoveries.

APPLICATIONS

What kinds of characters can be applied here?
Canon, AUs, silent protagonists, CRAUs, and OCs are all allowed. Real people and docu-drama versions of them (real-life Queen Elizabeth II or Queen Elizabeth II from The Crown), the fictional personalities of real people (a VTuber), characters made exclusively for smut (Omegaverse AUs), or canon OCs that have significant relationships with canon characters (Peter Parker's child from an AU timeline) are not allowed at this time. Aside from those exceptions, any sapient character of any age is allowed - nonhuman, non-corporeal, whatever, go nuts!

What if my character has a bit role/barely any screentime in their canon?
These will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Generally speaking, characters that require a lot of padding of history and personality in order to fill out their application will be accepted, but as canon OCs; this would mean that the same canon OC rules of "no significant relationships with main, canon characters" applies. On the other hand, if a character doesn't have a lot of concrete information about them because they were only recently introduced to a series, they are unlikely to be accepted due to the likelihood that those details will be filled in as the series continues.

What are the character caps?
Game Cap: 30

Cast Cap: 4 (this includes canon AUs/OCs; non-canon OCs do not have a character cap)

Different Versions of the Same Character: 2

Characters per Player: 2

These limits are tentative, and can be adjusted based on mod workload and general interest.

Are there app cycles?
Applications can be submitted at any time. They will be processed daily at 4pm EST, along with all other app-related processes like updating reserves and the waitlist. I request that players wait for one week before asking for application status updates.

Do I need a reserve? How do they work?
Reserves give priority to submitted applications so they will be reviewed first, but otherwise are not required. A reserve will remain "active" for up to one month; if the reserved character's application has not been received within that timeframe, the reserve will expire and a new reserve can be submitted for that character. Players that are already in the game and at individual character-per-player cap cannot submit a reserve for another character. A reserved application that results in a rejection will automatically expire the reserve, without the option to re-submit the reserve by the same player for another month. Similarly, a player that has submitted a reserve but not an app before the reserve expires cannot reserve the same character until a month later.

How does the waitlist work?
When the game reaches game or cast cap, applications that would go over those caps can still be submitted and accepted, but will be placed on a waitlist until a character is dropped. Apps that were accepted first will be admitted first from the waitlist when a spot opens up for that character (for example, if the game is at cap and MCU is at cap, and an MCU character is on the waitlist, if a non-MCU character drops, the MCU character on the waitlist will have to be skipped). The waitlist will not have an overall cap, but apps that are more than six months old will be removed from the list. The waitlist cannot be used to "stack" characters for players that are already at character cap; an application submitted by a player that's already at cap, or currently has a pending application/reserve for a different character, will be immediately rejected.

Can I apply a character from a new canon?
To avoid spoiling canons to the entire game, we ask that new canons or characters newly introduced to an existing canon be established for at least one month before applying.

Do I have to participate in the TDM to apply?
Yes. TDMs are an excellent way to determine how well a character will fit with the setting and existing or potential cast, plus they count for AC, so everyone wins! An application requires at least three comments from Glencola Reef TDMs within the last six months, across any number of threads.

Can I apply two characters from the same canon?
No; this includes canon AUs/CRAUs/canon OCs.

Can two different canon versions of the same character be in game at the same time?
Yes, as long as those versions of that character are sufficiently different to be considered two unique personalities and it doesn't cause conflict with existing versions of that character. For example, multiple regenerations of the Doctor from Doctor Who are safe, but if someone is already playing Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Jake Lockley as concurrent personalities of the same person, someone else can't app just one of them as a standalone character. Keep in mind that this counts towards the "versions of the same character" cap the same way that AUs would.

If my character is dropped/swept and I re-app them, will they retain their memories from the last time they were in the game? Will their transceiver/callsign stay the same?
This will be left up to player discretion.

ACTIVITY CHECK

What are the AC requirements for this game?
Activity requires one search request submitted within the AC month (not necessarily for the IC dates within the month) and one of the following:
  • An open post on the log or network communities, with an obvious attempt at following up on replies.
    • Posts closed to a single character, locked posts, or posts that aren't on one of the main communities will not count for this requirement.
    • Open toplevels for mingles can also be used here.
  • Five comments across a maximum of two threads.
    • At least one of these threads must be with a character that was not used for the previous month's AC cycle.
    • TDM and private threads can be used here, as well as Search Request threads with IC NPC interactions.

What if I submit a search request, but it hasn't been answered by the mod/resolved before the end of the month?
Unanswered or unresolved search requests can still be used for AC, within reason. I reserve the right to hand out a strike to someone that submits a search request within the last three days of the month, then tries to use that unanswered request for AC, if I'm already swamped trying to answer and resolve earlier ones for other players/characters.

What if I make an open post/toplevel and it doesn't get any replies?
As long as it wasn't posted 24 hours before the end of the month, these can still be used for AC. I would recommend still attempting to tag out and hitting the other AC quota, though; repeated submissions of empty posts will be noticed, and may result in a strike instead, depending on the circumstances.

What is the AC schedule?
  • At any time during the month: Players can post AC for that current month. Any tags/posts/toplevels/search requests/etc. that meet the AC requirements given above and have an EST timestamp for that month are fair game. Hiatuses, canon updates, and drops can also be submitted and will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Three days before the last day of the month at 4PM EST: A mod announcement warning that AC needs to be submitted soon will be made across as many channels as possible, with a reminder for any current special circumstances regarding that month's AC requirements.
  • At 11:59PM EST on the last day of the month: The latest timestamp for posts/tags/search requests allowed to be used for AC.
  • At 11:59PM EST on the 3rd day of the next month: The latest time AC or a hiatus/canon update can be submitted without taking a strike.
  • At 4PM EST on the 5th day of the next month: First round AC announcement will go up, detailing any characters that have not submitted AC, a hiatus, or intent to drop, and are in danger of being swept. Players that require corrections to pass AC without a strike will be contacted privately at this time.
  • At 4PM EST on the 7th day of the next month: Second round AC announcement will go up, including a list of characters dropped, swept, or given strikes. Any characters that have not responded to the AC post for that AC period, submitted a hiatus/drop, or otherwise haven't made an attempt to explain to the mod why they cannot do one of these things, will be swept from the game.

What exactly results in an AC strike, and what does that mean if I get one?
A strike can be handed out for one of several reasons:
  • AC was posted after 11:59PM EST on the 3rd day of the following month.
  • AC was not complete, and was not corrected in time to meet the second AC deadline, either because of lack of player response or from lack of time for the mod to respond to their AC submission.
  • Two hiatuses, canon updates, or a combination of the two were taken in a row.
  • Posts used for AC were made extremely close to the end of the month, in a way that suggests the player is trying to abuse the AC system without actually participating in the game (this is an extreme circumstance and probably won't be considered unless the individual does it several times in a row).
Getting a strike simply means that your activity is being closely monitored - you don't have to do anything special to make up for a strike, other than to meet the AC requirements for the next month. If you don't, your character will be swept in the following AC cycle.

Do new characters have to submit AC?
AC for brand new characters is check-in only. If your application was accepted past the middle of the month (the 15th), your check-in can apply to the month of acceptance and the following month.

How long can I hiatus for?
Normally a hiatus will only apply for one AC period. If you need to take a longer hiatus, please contact the mod directly.

How are canon updates handled?
Essentially the same way as hiatuses, up to and including providing an automatic pass for AC for the month that the canon update is submitted. The only difference is that your character will return with updated memories/appearance/etc. It's up to the player to determine if a canon-updated character will regain their memories from Glencola Reef, or if they will essentially start as a clean slate.

Can I take consecutive hiatuses/canon updates/hiatus + canon update?
You can, but doing two of these in a row will result in a strike unless there are special circumstances that you have contacted me about ahead of time.

AC stresses me out and I know I won't make it this month...should I just wait for my character to be swept?
Please don't do this. As noted in the rules, if you have two AC cycles in a row that result in swept characters, I reserve the right to reject further applications from you. I want to work with my players if there are circumstances that are preventing them from making AC, so please, please reach out to me first before deciding to just idle out.

hello! i have a couple questions:

1) i am considering apping wanderer from genshin impact. he is a mechanical puppet who doesn't need food or water to survive and is unable to get sick. is this okay or should he arrive in a human body?

2) if 2 or more characters want to search together, how does that work? can we submit joint search requests?

hello!! i just have a question re: cast caps (because of course i do).

would a franchise a la marvel or dc be counted as one cast (comics, cinematic universe, animated, ...x-men cinematic), or would each be counted as separate casts?

Hey, just wanted a clarification on weapons - would a normal sword (imagine the type worn at the waist rather than on the back) fall under "large" weapons, or would it make it in along with the character upon arrival?

Boring question about the nature of characters based on real people! I know docu-drama characters aren't applicable. But what about characters based on real people but from a canon with fictionalized elements? (Example: John Franklin from AMC's The Terror, Leonardo da Vinci from Assassin's Creed, Anne Boleyn from the musical Six, etc.)

So powers are sealed, but what about something like a hereditary/bloodline curse? Idia's entire family has a curse that burns off magic waste ("blot") and it manifests as blue flaming hair that only gets hot and turns orange if he's really mad. Would he end up having no curse effects and just normal hair that's weird blue or could he still have the flames?

Hello mods! Just want to double check on your rules for apping AU characters before I make a full decision on who to bring in.

I'm hoping to play an AU version of a character that passed away and was rebuilt by his brother as a robot in canon. The idea would be to switch the roles of the brothers so the opposite one is now the robot. Everything aside from this detail would be played out the same as the events in canon aside from the role swap! He'd be played with the same personality as if he were the robot version, as well, because the robot was programmed with his human counterpart's memories.

I know it's a bit odd, so just wanted to be sure on your thoughts. And for clarity, the brother (standard canon) would be considering coming in as well and the player has full approval of the concept, as well!

2) Since the messages are cleared after 24 hours, would re-sending the message before it expires be a viable way to keep it from expiring?
3) Is there any such thing as a "drafts" folder or place that saves unsent texts?

Basically trying to figure out if sending a text to yourself (and then re-sending it) would be a viable way to keep or take notes without paper?

Separate question since it's a different topic!

This is mostly curiosity more than anything, but how do cast caps work when it comes to characters who are major characters in more than one canon?

For example: Gus Fring is a major character in both Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad. John Munch is a major character in both Homicide: Life On The Street and Law & Order: SVU. Would they count towards cast caps for both canons? Would it depend specifically on the canon point/show they were pulled from?

Hi there!

To expand on some of the comments of robots/mechanical bodies and limitations that make them baseline human (so lack of super strength and so on), how would this work with a robot that hovers to move? Would they still be able to but at a lesser level (aka, walking/running but not flying over a certain height?) or would they lose the ability all together, or up to player choice?

Thank you!

Another question about synthetic characters and physiological limits: does the "nerfed to baseline human" thing also nerf features that are simply the result of a character's physical composition? Namely: if a character has body parts made of metal, do those retain metallic properties that would technically give them an upper-hand over a human in some situations? I.e., durability, hardness, weight. Or does all of it get transformed into flesh?

If a character is first apped as their canon version, is it possible to later update them with memories from a prior game they were played in, thus making them CRAU?

Questions!

I read about robots, puppets and wings, but wanted to know if a character that has both gills and lungs, and can swap between breathing air or water would be allowed.

I can restrict the character in question to ONLY being able to handle salt water OR fresh water diving(meaning if my character can only breathe in fresh water, saltwater would burn too badly and tear up his gills, or vise versa), or will the character be entirely incapable of breathing underwater all together?

Second, the character I'm considering apping is an AU version of a canon character I've been rping for almost 10 years so the difference is quite huge. I just wanted to double check I can still app that version!

Can an animal character speak to animals in game? I know it probably counts as a power, but I figured I'd ask. In the books animals are able to understand each other, but in a way that isn't special or magical. It's more like the assumption that animal noises are language, like there's some evidence that crows and other intelligent species have, but with the added assumption that if they cared to animals could understand the language of other species.

It's safe to say that Science says no, this is not how the real world works, but that's the idea.

Hey! I didn't see this anywhere, but I mostly just skimmed so it's possible I missed it!

Do canon updated characters get to keep arrival items that they get from their new canonpoint?

For instance (not something that applies to my character, just an example), let's say a character doesn't have a gun when they first arrive on the island but they are then canon updated to a point in time when they wound now have a gun on their person. Do they get to bring the gun with them when they come back to the island?

Please let me know if that doesn't make sense and I'll try to re-word it!

ANOTHER walkie transceiver q: what would be the result of trying to message a character who's died and has yet to revive? Anything out of the ordinary, or would the sender just not get a reply?

I also have a transceiver q!

Can characters delete posts they make on their own? I know it says posts are deleted automatically after 24 hours, but let's say a character sent something to the wrong person on accident or just decided they no longer wanted a message up in light of new information or something. Would they be able to delete the message prior to the 24 hour mark?

There will be! This is in fact my job, and will be my project for this week since work has calmed down a bit. I'll probably delete this comment once I've finished, but it's going to be a thread chain in the map page linked to from each of the individual map comments.

Is there an area you're looking for in particular? If not, I was going to start with the main points of interest such as the Cabin, the Airfield and the bunkers.
