Search Requests
SEARCH REQUESTS
At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
- Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
- Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
- Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
- You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
- Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
- Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
- IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
- Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

SUBMISSIONS
All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.
IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.
STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.
ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.
DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
- The path your character is taking,
- The squares you want them to search,
- Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
- Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.

DETAILS: At first light, Taissa will head North West (and continue diagonally) into the jungle in hopes of meeting up with Chloe Frazer. She will be searching the area as she goes, eyes out particularly for water collected on large tree leaves, any signs of fruit, as well any trails made by human or animal.

She takes almost anything she finds. The flip flop, sand pail, 5 arrows, hollow fang, hemp, and hemp rope go into her new "bag". She eats one of the dragonfruit she finds and continues to drink what rainwater she can find on jungle leaves. She puts the remaining dragonfruit in her bag. The purple transceiver case with googly eyes gets clipped onto her radio. No one can tell her she doesn't have a sense of humor buried inside.
In the afternoon, she takes the vine, small handsaw (thank God, something to cut things with!), short USB cable, and more dragonfruit. She intentionally tries to leave the strange animal paw behind, but ends up taking it without later remembering.
When she reaches the camp, it seems like the best place to stay and wait for Chloe. She's exhausted, but determined not to fall asleep alone in a strange place. She makes a fire with some of the hemp fiber as kindling. She has another dragonfruit and uses the small handsaw to help cut it and peel the skin but her hands still stained a bit reddish from handling the fruit. She has 10 dragonfruit left. She also sets out her little plastic bucket in a spot to catch any overnight rainwater.
She would also like to search the pre-made camp for anything of use or note.
She will wait the remaining two hours until Chloe arrives and then sleep there for the night.

- Taissa attempts to travel with Chloe, but Chloe steps in a beartrap just outside Rust's Old Camp at III.R.26. Taissa helps her out of it.
- They rest in camp and meet Cat.
- Taissa, Chloe, and Cat leave to look for fresh water.

- The Cat leads the women to a pond at VII.S.3
Day 13
- Taissa, Chloe, and Cat rest by the pond and Taissa puts out a call for help over the network.
Day 14
- The group is met at the pond by Rust and "Ben". Ben makes breakfast, Rust rebandages Chloe's foot and makes her a crutch, they all drink, and the men leave them with several items including a pool float to turn into a stretcher.
Days 15-16
- The group waits for help to arrive, and goes a bit stir-crazy.

- K and Squalo arrive at the pond with the help of Cat.
- K cauterizes Chloe's wounds and rebandages them.
- K and Squalo help carry Chloe via stretcher, while Taissa checks for traps, and Cat gets a ride. They decide to make a pit-stop at Martin's Jail on VII.C.25 due to the oncoming storm.
Days 18-20

DETAILS:
In their camp at Martin's Jail (tm) Taissa will set out her small plastic bucket along with whatever K puts out to help catch water during the upcoming storm. She'll explore the interior of the bunker, and then idly look around during the three days spent there to keep occupied. She'll also offer to help Chloe with any bandage changes, engage in conversation (mostly with K and Chloe since Squalo has put himself by the door), complain about the cat going nuts, and pace a bit to keep occupied. Night 18 she'll smoke the single cigarette given to her by "Ben" away from the others to

Taissa will again volunteer to check for traps ahead of the group so she doesn't have to pull anyone else out of a bear trap. She'll be focused on that and making good time, but will expand her search for food and more general items when they make their two camps along the way. Now that it's not raining

The group slowly but surely makes their way around a branch of the central mountain; the riverside campsites in squares VII.G.20 and VII.K.30 are notably absent for coopting. Taissa's search for food yields results, but not many.
Day 25
STARTING SQUARE: VI.L.15
ENDING SQUARE: VI.L.15
DETAILS: After travelling all night, Tai and Chloe make camp and try to get some rest. Tai falls asleep rapidly but gets up just a few hours later.
She silently "sleepwalks", without waking Chloe, just far enough away to southeast to not be able to see their camp with the aid of the foothills. She looks for any small clusters of trees and aims for one facing away from where she came. She intends to carve this symbol onto that tree using the shiv that Lalo gave her.
If nothing hinders her: she will return back to camp, take Chloe's old bloodied bandages and a necklace made of teeth from her bag, and return to the tree with the symbol.
There she will bury her wedding ring at the base of the tree with her hands and reverently bring the fresh earth on her fingers into her mouth before artfully arranging the bandages with Chloe's dried blood, the necklace made of teeth, a single keyboard key that says "CTRL", and the now surely somewhat decomposed medium-sized furred paw of an animal (that she had found weeks ago by itself).
After that, the goal will be to return to camp and lay back down to sleep.

Tai will wake up tired with her missing items and mysterious new one and SAY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and just suffer with the uncomfortable implications on her own.
Night 37
STARTING SQUARE: VII.S.6
ENDING SQUARE: VII.S.6
DETAILS: After imbibing a hard seltzer and a half each, Chloe and Tai get to sleep for the night in their new camp. A few hours of sleep later, Taissa gets up and begins to "sleepwalk" once more. She'll pick a tree just outside the campsite to the north and carves The Symbol facing away from their camp. If she is not interrupted, she will attempt to climb to the lowest branch of the tree and use threads of shredded hemp to individually hang a fishing lure, fish spine, hoof, two ancient-looking gold coins pilfered from Chloe's things, and some mystery gross bandages from it. She will then sit in the tree and stare at the campsite for about twenty minutes if nothing interrupts her, then climb down, return to the site, and go back to sleep in a different position than before.
If she is unable to climb the tree, the items will be tied together and artfully arranged beneath the Symbol at the base of the tree instead.
