Search Requests
SEARCH REQUESTS
At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
- Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
- Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
- Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
- You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
- Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
- Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
- IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
- Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

SUBMISSIONS
All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.
IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.
STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.
ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.
DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
- The path your character is taking,
- The squares you want them to search,
- Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
- Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.
E
Eduardo "Lalo" Salamanca | Better Call Saul
Day 1
STARTING SQUARE: VIII.E.26.
ENDING SQUARE: ??? Depends what he finds.
DETAILS: SO. There are several things that might cause Lalo to stop moving/traveling, depending on what he finds.
He'll first spend an hour or two drying off and cleaning out his phone, his gun and his boots, figuring out if he and Kokichi are sticking together or going their separate ways, if Martin is going to try to catch up to them, etc.
After that!!!
He'll check to see if he gets reception on his phone, but won't be surprised it's not working because he comes from a time when cell phones existed but cell phone reception was often poor in isolated areas like this, so he won't sink a ton of time into trying to get it to work as a phone. He'll mostly want it for the flashlight and compass apps, which he will use to help guide him as he travels. He'll use rocks to mark where he's been, and he'll use the compass app on the phone to help keep himself oriented. (Hopefully the battery won't run out any time soon!) He will have a slight limp and while that won't slow him down as much as you might think, it will still slow him down somewhat as he nurses his leg when he walks.
He will be trying his best to head North, towards the general direction of where Squalo is, following the coast but staying out of high tide, mostly because he heard on the walkie there's a river there.
On the way he'll be first and foremost searching for any sign of drinkable water (or edible fruits with a lot of juice, plants that hold water like cactii, coconuts, etc). If he finds/sees fresh water or a sign of nearby fresh water, he'll stop moving and look for a place nearby to set up camp that's safe, clear and out of reach of high tide. If he doesn't see anything indicating fresh water, he'll keep moving.
Lalo is very observant and notices when things seem odd or out of place, and he'll stop to investigate anything that seems amiss or out of the ordinary in any way, no matter how small or seemingly significant it might be. He'll use the flashlight app on his phone to examine things more closely if need be. This might mean he moves a little more slowly if he does encounter something like that, though!
He'll also be on the look out for edible plants and breaks in the jungle foliage that might indicate a relatively safer path through the jungle (or even a human and/or wildlife created path) as well, since going through the jungle would be faster but he doesn't want to risk plowing through a heavily forested area when there's no way to know what's in there!
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS TOO MUCH

Night 002 --> Morning 003
STARTING SQUARE: VII.K.30
ENDING SQUARE: VII.K.30 (stationary)
DETAILS:
Lalo will continue to sit there like that for about ten to fifteen minutes or so, or however long it takes until he's positive that Jet is gone and can no longer see him. Once Jet is definitely gone, he'll breathe a deep sigh of relief and scrub a hand over his face that he is finally, finally free of his own personal Sword of Damocles in the form of a deeply suicidal child who is apparently desperate to get himself killed. Which wouldn't normally be a problem -- except that Kokichi getting himself killed means getting Lalo killed by extension for letting it happen.
Now he can finally think.
He's going to discard the egg he stole from the birds the previous day, since lbr it's probably bad by now? Whoops. Guess Birdgate
1995200420152019??? was all for nothing.Then he's going to make a small campfire. He'll do it the old-fashioned way this time, with sticks, which might take him longer than the way he did before, but he doesn't want to use anymore bullets if he doesn't have to.
He's also gonna unhappily discard the fish because they've been sitting out for 3 hours (rule of thumb: fish shouldn't be left out at room temperature without being cooked for more than 2). He was really looking forward to that jerky! Damn it. Grumpily, he'll settle for cucumber instead while he boils water in the conch shell and plots his next moves. He'll drink some water now, and then boil some more water to sterilize so he can rinse out and then fill the empty beer bottle he'd been drinking from the night before so he has water to carry around with him!
Of course, he'll be on High Alert for more drones the entire time!
He'll then sleep for an hour (canonly all he needs, seriously). He's not gonna bother to build a shelter, just try to find a place that HE HOPES is out of the way enough to be safe-ish. He'll wake up after an hour and stay up through the rest of the night until dawn, so he can fish some more in the early dawn, at night listening to any radio messages he may have missed (on a very low volume, holding it up to his ear at times since it's hard to hear otherwise) and just think his evil little thoughts.
When it finally gets to dawn, he's gonna try to fish. He is gonna get some fish jerky, damn it, and it's gonna be good too.

Day 005 --> Morning 006
IC DATES: Day 005 --> Morning 006
STARTING SQUARE: VII.C.25
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS: First off, weird question! I don't think he'd realistically be able to tell this (esp not from four berries) bc it's not like he's a botanist or anything, but just for shits and giggles — what species of juniper are the berries? Just wondering since some are toxic and some are not! This is just for my own curiosity; he'll leave them behind regardless.
Taking: flint, steel shovel, the polished stones, one handful of electronics salvage, let's say two of the wires? Also Martin's player said he could have the syringe Martin found.
Leaving: plastic fork, the berries, the rest of the computer debris
Is the broken power cable long enough to be useful to tie somebody's hands up? If it is, he'll take that too. If not, he'll leave it.
Lalo has heard people on the network talking about the drones being used to open the cell doors, so he'll take whichever drone is the least destroyed and try to see if he can open the cell door that way; he'll sink probably an an hour and a half into doing this if it doesn't work right away. If/when it does work, he'll go inside and search the cell. If it still isn't working after about 90 minutes of trying different drones (or what's left of them), holding them in different positions, etc, he'll eventually give up, drink some water, force himself to eat some grapes because he's probably starving by now, and hope they don't make him sick. Then he'll sleep through whatever's left of the rest of the night until morning. If it is successful then he'll go inside, search the cell, and same thing — eat, drink, sleep.
In the morning, he'll either search the last cell after the doors open it (if the previous day's attempts were unsuccessful) then say his goodbyes from the others and depart, heading in the direction of the northeast coast, ROUGHLY in the direction of the cell where Cohle was being held. I'm aiming to get him near thereabouts eventually, but it's not like he has exact directions so his path might not be the most straightforward. If the previous day's search attempts were successful, then he'll say goodbye and leave first thing in the morning.
He will thoroughly search every square on the way. In particular he's looking out for poisonous plants (plants that would be recognizable as toxic to someone who isn't a scientist or a plant expert but generally has fairly good wilderness survival skills), anything big enough to be a vessel to carry his items in, and anything that stands out as very unusual or out of place. He also will be reasonably cautious and will try to avoid difficult terrain even if it takes longer bc he's not in a hurry — however, he's determined to get to where he's headed eventually so if he has to traverse difficult terrain or do something risky to get there, then he will! He'd just prefer not to if there's another option.

Day 006
Taking: lockpick, small strip of cloth, one handful of blackberries (he'll eat them out of his hand as he walks), small pouch with drawstring, the bullet casing (the gun he has with him is a 9mm, so who knows, maybe Senku or somebody else smart like that can refill it sometime)
Leaving: the rest of the blackberries, plastic fork
IC DATES: Day 006
STARTING SQUARE: VII.G.18
ENDING SQUARE: VII.I.16
DETAILS:
VII.G.18 -> VII.H.17
VII.H.17 -> VII.I.16
While the crab is chilling peacefully, Lalo will quickly capture but not kill her (yet), carrying her with him. He'll hold her claws -out as best he can to try to avoid getting pinched, but if he does then he does. He won't drop her even if she pinches. I'm going to say he probably drops something in the process of carrying her, though — let's say one of the computer wires he took from the drone prison building.
He'll fill his watertight conch shell with water to boil, then cross the river moving north diagonally to VII.I.16. There, he'll make himself a small campfire using the coal he grabbed earlier as kindling. At this point, he will use the crossbow bolt he found earlier to spike the crab and kill her. He'll let the water boil, then let the fire burn down until it's just embers, smokey coal remnants, and a few small flames. He'll put the now dispatched crab directly on the coals so it gets a smokey flavor while he drinks his water and waits for the crab to finish cooking. As soon as it does, he'll gobble it down. YUM!
He's also going to take off his shoes and socks to let them dry by the fire since they're probably wet from crossing the river.

Morning 008
STARTING SQUARE: IV.J.31
ENDING SQUARE: As close to the drone building where Rust was held as he can get in 4 hours, given the stipulations below
DETAILS:
First things first - Lalo will pick through as much of the debris on the beach as he has the time to before before he has to get tf out of the way of the incoming high tide! He will then be moving in the general direction of the drone building where Rust was held, on the NE coast. He'll use the compass app on his phone to help him guide him in the right direction, now that it works again! He will thoroughly search each square he moves through. He'll especially be looking for food, herbs, anything that can be used to hold water or carry things, or any sign of fresh water or organic life (animal or human). As always, he'll also notice and stop to investigate anything that just seems... weird, or out of place in some way.
He will also be looking for tracks, cigarette butts, articles of clothing or garbage/disposed food that looks like it was discarded recently, or anything that indicates another person might be nearby. He will also stop to periodically either wipe away his own tracks or double back on himself to confuse people/make his path harder to follow, which I'm sure will add to his travel time.
He will stop to regroup and take stock of his surroundings if he finds a stream or any fresh water, or after 4 hours of travel, whichever comes first.
He won't avoid particularly dangerous terrain the way he was before. He won't take stupid risks or go out of his way to do anything ridiculously dangerous, but unlike before, he's prioritizing speed over the easiest possible path right now (when it comes to the route he takes - he'll still sacrifice speed to do things like cover his tracks or search for food/items/etc).
Also he may stop to climb a tree if he sees one that looks like it can support his weight? He's athletic and a really good climber, but he's also a pretty big dude (not heavy-set but, like, tall). Partly to see if he can see if he can see anything from that vantage point but also, partly just for fun! And to try to feel more at home in his own body again after what happened, by testing what it can do.

Day 9 --> Day 10
STARTING SQUARE: III.J.25
ENDING SQUARE: West towards the river, following the same trajectory as Rust
DETAILS:
At the end of Day 9/beginning of Night 9- after a productive day of stalking- Lalo will get a dragonfruit to eat from Rust, since he's prob pretty hungry and thirsty having had nothing but rain water since he first came back to life! He will also grill a plantain up for himself, Rust and/or Steph before bed (whoever wants some). He will also give 2-3 cigarettes from his pack to Rust and keep the rest for himself (for bribes!). Then he'll sleep for a couple hours.
The next morning or even towards the end of Night 9, before he and Rust try to move the desk, Lalo is going to check the desk for any USB cables since Jet mentioned he was able to find some at the other drone building (and Lalo saw some himself there). If he is able to locate some, he will try to see if any of them fit in his cell phone, and if they do, can they be used to charge it? If there aren't USB cables/they don't fit/he can't use them to charge that's totally cool, though he will note the difference of this one not having any cables and the other one having them in that case.
If he's able to find any, he'll let his phone charge in there for a little bit before they try to lift the desk. He'll also search the general perimeter of the building, looking for any small piece of metal or anything that looks like it could be used as a makeshift lockpick for his handcuffs. He'll search inside the cells for this too, since IIRC Martin found one at the other drone building and I believe Lalo is aware of that.
He will leave his 1 handful of electronics salvage and one more additional cigarette from his pack in with Rust's care package, too.
When they lift the desk he will rescue his phone before they try to move it if it's been charging there. If there's any obvious way to shield/protect the computer from damage he might try to do that, but he'll prioritize moving the desk over protecting the computer.
Then he will fully commit to helping Rust move the desk! Let's see what's under there! He'll be extremely curious and want to poke around a bit if they actually do find anything unusual.
He will use his piece of glass to carve sangre por sangre next to Rust's little map if they're able to carve stuff in there. If Rust writes it on the wall, he'll do that then too with his own charred little stick! He will not sign his work.
Lalo will tuck his gun into the waistband of his pants, and clip his walkie to one of his belt loops. His cell phone, his money, and his pack of cigs will all go in his jeans pockets. The piece of glass will be wrapped in his bandana then tucked into one of his shirt/jacket pockets; his handcuffs will also go in his shirt/jacket pocket. He'll be wearing his bucket hat on his head for shade + style, and carrying the tote bag that Rust is making him carry (😡), as he follows Rust towards the river. As they walk, he will try to pay attention to Rust pointing out how to notice traps etc, if Rust feels inclined to share that info with him!
Then he will sit with Rust some distance from the fish trap and watch for 2-3 hours to see what happens! In contract with Lalo's usual attitude, he will be very quiet and still and well-behaved so as not to draw unwanted attention to them.
(no subject)
Night 10!
Taking: small deer horn, corroded metal wire, chunk of chain, paper clip, shiv, thyme flowers, grenadine, fishing lure
Leaving: usb plug since it doesn't work with his phone ANYWAY (he flushes it down the toilet out of annoyance)
Anyway, Lalo and his shitty flashlight app will follow Rust. He'll stay behind Rust if they do end up moving so that if there are any traps, Rust gets caught in them and not him lol. Also, he'll do the best he can in the dark to monitor their rear so nobody sneaks up on him. He'll probably rely more on listening than hearing b/c it's so dark, so he'll be hyper attuned to any unusual sounds. He will try to watch out with his eyes as best he can in the dark, though!
When they find whatever trees they end up sleeping in, he'll take the shard of glass out of his pocket and hide it under his palm, slightly up his sleeve, still mostly wrapped in the bandana but with a sharp edge poking out so that his has a quick, not-easily-visible impromptu weapon at his disposal. At least while he's awake, anyway; while he's asleep he fold it back up in his bandana and put it back in his pocket.

Morning 011
STARTING SQUARE: III.B.26
ENDING SQUARE: Following the river north to the beach.
DETAILS:
Repurposing my last search req with some slight modifications!
Lalo will let Rust take care of looking for any animal tracks, traps, etc. Also, he'll let Rust go first and only travel in spaces Rust has already cleared of traps/etc. so that if there is a trap Rust gets caught in it and not him lol.
Instead, while Rust looks for traps/animal tracks/etc., Lalo will be focused on something else: FINDING PLASTIC BOTTLES. He and Rust need them for something, so he's going to prioritize finding them. He wants to find two, but even one will be helpful.
If/when he's able to find them, he'll shift his focus to dividing his attention between watching their rear so nobody sneaks up on them, paying attention to what Rust is doing while looking for animal tracks so he knows what to do when he's alone, and looking for any useful (read: edible or poisonous) plants.
And, as always, of course Lalo will have his eyes peeled for anything that just seems unusual or out of the ordinary.
Whenever they do stop, Lalo will test the paperclip on his handcuffs to see if it can be used as a makeshift lockpick for them.
Oh, and he's gonna munch/chew on one or two of his little thyme flowers as they move. :) And he probably tries to skip a rock at some point when he gets bored or antsy and Rust has to stop him!

Morning 12 -> Morning 13
STARTING SQUARE: III.F.20
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
Upon seeing the fishing trap, Lalo will get as close as he can to examine it without touching or disturbing it. He'll be careful not to actually mess with it though.
He'll then probably want to hide somewhere under cover for an hour or two just to watch the trap and see if anything happens or anyone comes to it. He definitely won't stay after dark to do this, though!
On the way back he will wash his face + hands + arms in the river, and then fill as much of the empty beer bottle with water he used washing himself as possible. He will then wander in the wrong direction away from camp, dumping the water out as he goes. This is to confuse someone tracking by scent, as there are likely dead skin cells in the water. Hopefully, it might lead them at least briefly off-course, buying time.
Finally, he will walk down the river until he finds a narrow-ish spot he can jump over to cross. He'll do this, jumping back and forth along the river a few times, until he's on the same side as camp. Then he will take off his shoes but NOT his socks and walk back to camp, where he'll put his shoes back on. This is to confuse someone tracking by sight; it breaks up the tracks AND creates a new track (socks vs shoes).
In the morning, Lalo and Rust will eat breakfast (spinach + lemongrass + garlic + guava fruit juice makes a great salad, it turns out!) and drink water collected from their filter.
After breakfast, they will then begin exploring by heading to the east beach to see what they find there. They will time their exploration carefully so that the tide washes away their tracks. Rust will bring up the front, checking for traps, tracks, etc., as he has been doing and Lalo will watch their back so that nobody sneaks up on them. They will thoroughly search each square they pass through.
They will stop 2 hours before sunset to make camp, unless they stumble across anything unusual, in which case they'll stop sooner.
(no subject)
Day 13
STARTING SQUARE: III.W.21
ENDING SQUARE: Aiming for VII.S.3
DETAILS:
Lalo will follow Rust in the direction of Rust's old camp! He'll carry their supplies while Rust does the tracking. He'll also help watch their rear to make sure nobody sneaks up from behind them, as he's been doing; if they have to pass under any trees, he'll watch the trees to make sure nobody drops down onto them. He trusts Rust's tracking abilities to have the ground covered, so he'll just make sure to only step in squares Rust has already cleared of traps.
When instructed to, Lalo will hang back and watch from a safe distance away while Rust explores the camp, and wait until Rust tells him it's safe to approach before doing so.
He'll follow Rust's lead as Rust tracks Chloe, Taissa & co. back to their camp. He'll cook for the others while Rust chops down a branch to whittle into a crutch for Chloe, and he'll even leave a couple of smoked fish treats for Cat, whenever Cat arrives with the search party. They'll also drop off supplies for the girls, a list of which can be found on Rust's post here.
Then it's time for SHOTS! SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS.

Day 14
STARTING SQUARE: VII.S.3
ENDING SQUARE: ??? WHO KNOWS LOL
DETAILS:
See here!
A few notable additions: even in their haste to find Shaw/Shaw's body, Lalo will still be somewhat more cautious and aware of their surroundings than Rust will be. At the first sound of whistling, he'll hit the ground. He's also still doing that thing of waiting for Rust to clear a square before stepping into it.
He might also be looking for non-obvious signs that someone has been around, not necessarily active traps b/c he's relying on Rust for that, but given the bear trap disappearing from the camp they were at w/ Chloe and Tai, indents in the ground that indicate something has been moved, etc.
Also, if it's obvious Rust is about to do something way dumb, Lalo will yank him out of the way (probably) - IF there's a way to do that without Lalo putting himself in harm's way instead. (If there's not, then it's every man for himself, RIP Rust, etc.) Once it's been 24 hours since they started looking (so mid Day 16-ish?), he'll remind Rust that people tend to come back after 24 hours and that if she has died, there's a good chance her body has already disappeared by now.
(no subject)
Day 016 - Morning 018
STARTING SQUARE: VII.S.3
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
Lalo and Rust will head back to the Busted Foot Crew to drop off more food (and an extra cigarette for Tai).
Night 16, Lalo and Chloe will smoke some of the weed Lalo found out of a pipe Rust makes them, while Rust and Tai will be grownups, and... not get high in the wilderness. Rust will keep watch. Lalo will sleep for a few hours, then go join Rust on watch-keeping duty for a few hours. He'll make Rust sleep for an hour or two in the morning before they head out towards the foothills again, trying to find Shaw or her body.
Somewhere around mid-Day 17, while in the foothills (likely VII.L.3 or adjacent, but I'll leave it to you), Lalo will take an increasingly obsessive Rust hostage with whatever force he needs to, and will try to take Rust somewhere that is:
1) away from any rivers and not too close to the coast;
2) not TOO high/no mountaintops/hilltops/etc
3) unlikely to flood
4) away from the tallest trees, or anything seemingly likely to attract lightning.
They'll be on the lookout for caves or anything that seems like it might do in a pinch, too, but Lalo will be careful not to pick anything likely to cave in. If he can't tell if it's going to last through the storm without trapping them, he's not going inside.
They'll use the tent Lalo found along with any supplies and tools they manage to gather to make a fortified shelter (unless they find a safe, non-cave-in-able cave or something similar!). They'll also use the animal pelt and anything else they can find to try to waterproof it as much as possible. If it would be helpful based on their location, they might dig a little ditch or moat to prevent water from flooding. If it would be helpful, they might also make some kind of makeshift lightning rod a few squares away although they likely won't bother with that if they're inside of a cave, lol, but they might if they're in an open area.
They will also be on the lookout for materials to use for a fire, and if they find a cave early on, they'll also be looking for materials they can use to shore up the front/create a barrier between them and in the elements outside. They'll also be on the lookout for anything they can use for bedding, too.

Morning 18 --> Morning 21
STARTING SQUARE: VII.I.6
ENDING SQUARE: VII.I.6
DETAILS:
Lalo will have used the metal pole to make a jury-rigged lightning rod some distance from the camp, far enough away for it not to be dangerous to them if lightning does hit it (since that's the idea!).
He will spend the rest of his time doing his best to keep the campsite fortified, whittling extra tent pegs, maybe digging a hole with something around it to keep a fire going (he'll prioritize keeping the shelter from getting destroyed though) and try to keep Rust under control until the storm passes. They're also going to make a rainwater catcher with Rust's simple hand-held net + one of the raincoats.
Oh, and sometime around Day 20 (assuming neither of them are injured at that point; Lalo won't want to be inebriated if either he or Rust is injured), they're gonna get drunk in a storm- or at least Rust will get Lalo buzzed(ish)- because why not.
Lalo's Cooking Corner to be detailed here, once I know if (or for how long) he survives the storm!
CW: animal death
CW: non-PETA approved things to do to a critically endangered species
Morning 21
STARTING SQUARE: VII.I.6
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
Once it's clear that they storm has definitely subsided, Lalo and Rust will take some time and assess the damage and general condition of their immediate surroundings. How are things looking after the storm?
Lalo will use a little of the rainwater they collected and one of their strips of cloth to wipe himself down so he doesn't look all "Carrie" anymore, tho he'll try to be conservative with how much he uses. They will also process the elephant, which is bound to take a while (though they won't use absolutely all of what they were able to salvage).
After all that, they'll generally just clean/dry off as much of their shit as they can, especially drying out their guns, and cleaning knives used on the elephant meat/etc.
They will make a gift for the Cabin's resident before they go. It will contain a single cigarette, a wild onion, all the pokeweed they found, some of the elephant bones, an arrow Lalo forced Rust to show him how to make that will be made with the same bloody arrow from the arrow they found earlier (the one used to kill Lalo) & using the Cabin Gremlin's fletching, and some premium-grade smoked elephant jerky. Lalo will also cut off a tiny piece of the tarp and use his permanent marker to leave a note saying, in Spanish, "Call me! <3 DI481O" with their present. They will leave the note + the gift in VII.I.6 before they leave, for the Cabin Gremlin to find.
(They will take 5 pounds of elephant bones with them, leave 10 pounds of bones in Cabin Gremlin's present, and leave the remaining 25 pounds of bones in the crater.)
Next, they will try to get to a vantage point where they can clearly see the cabin but aren't close to it. They will try to get further from the cabin than they are now; basically, they're trying to put as much physical distance between themselves and the cabin as possible while still having an unrestricted view of the cabin, to see if there's anything they can learn about post-storm CG behavior. They also want to see the state of the cabin itself. What state is it in? The same as before, damaged, gone entirely? Are there any additional (weird/unusual) fallen objects they can see from their vantage point above (near the cabin or not)? Cars, more chunks of elephants, anything at all that looks like it shouldn't be there...?
They will try to find a nice (???) spot to camp that's, again, as physically distant as they can get from the cabin while still being able to have a clear view. Right now, this is purely about observation.
Oh, and p.s. Rust will be partly restrained for most of this. His injured arm will be unrestrained and wearing the wrist brace. His uninjured wrist will be restrained by being handcuffed to his leather belt, behind his back, across several belt loops.

Day 21 --> Morning 23
STARTING SQUARE: VII.H.8
ENDING SQUARE: VII.O.9 (or roughly around thereabouts)
DETAILS:
Rust and Lalo will camp out the rest of the night in their new spot, spending the night sleeping and surveilling the cabin.
After that, they'll be hurting for water, so first this the next morning, at sunrise, Lalo will take them to the river! They'll loop the long way around the cabin to avoid passing too close to it, giving it as wide a berth as they can while still keeping it in view. Lalo will also specifically be avoiding taking them through the same area where he died, if that's on the way.
Lalo will thoroughly search each square he passes through for either anything that looks like it was deliberately left out for someone to find, or maybe pieces of the cabin that blew off in the storm; he'll leave looking for tracks to Rust. He's also having Rust check for traps though iirc I think Rust is still trying to lead him into one, lol.
They won't stop traveling until they reach the river, where they will stay through the night into the next morning.

Night 23 >>> Day 24
STARTING SQUARE: VII.O.9
ENDING SQUARE: Following the river away from the cabin (involuntarily)
DETAILS:
GUESS WHO IS A HOSTAGE NOW.
Lalo will spend the earliest parts of the morning texting with CG, and then later parts of the morning/day GETTING LITERALLY TORTURED. He won't really be going anywhere or doing much, because he'll be tied up.
Once Rust leaves him to go sit in chill in a tree, Lalo will struggle to get out of his bonds to no avail. He might pass out in 20 or 30 minute chunks but for the most part, his situation will keep him from getting too much sleep. Not that he sleeps much anyway, but he'll sleep even less than usual.
The next day, completely exhausted and in pain, he will be marched down the river
like someone going to the gallowsand will be left wherever Rust chooses to abandon him.(no subject)

Day 24 > Night 24 (cw: removing yourself from the callsign list aka suicide)
STARTING SQUARE: VII.S.7
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
After being marched to VII.S.8, Lalo will be forced to create an ASCII rendering of the bone with markings they found. Hey, if he can figure out how to create a virtual dick pic, he can figure out this.
Then he will get his knees smashed in! Hopefully, his screaming doesn't attract predators, sentient or not.
He will wait until Rust is definitely out of definitely out of both eye- and earshot before...
...honestly, just curling up into a little ball and weeping silently to himself like a shattered husk for about 5 - 10 minutes. It'll start noiseless and discrete, barely noticeable except for the periodic sharp rise and fall of his shoulders as he buries his face in his arms, before ramping up in intensity to more obvious- but still relatively quiet- sobbing, making quiet gasping noises you can only hear if you get close.
Eventually, though, he'll pull himself together and crawl to the closest edge of water, dragging himself on his arms. He has muscular arms and good upper body strength as well as insane levels of physical resilience, so this isn't not-doable, although I would imagine it's probably going to be rough for him just because of the condition he's in!
When he is able to reach the edge of the water, he will call Chloe, letting her know their communication is compromised, before taking one last deep breath and crawling into the water face-first and submerging, intentionally drowning himself.

Morning 26 >>> ???
STARTING SQUARE: XV.K.16
ENDING SQUARE: As near to VI.L.15 as he can get
DETAILS:
(The first part of this is narration you can mostly ignore, lol; I'll bold any relevant parts and I'll make sure to cover the bulk of his travel/trajectory in a separate part at the bottom. Please let me know if any of it is confusing or if you need clarification.)
When Lalo wakes up, the world is gray.
Technically, it's black-and-white, but within the black-and-white there are all kinds of shades of light gray, of dark gray. The pit in the water front of him is dark gray, almost black, surrounded by lighter shades of gray, and the foaming white froth of the breaking waves. The stripes on his transceiver case, which he removes from his transceiver immediately but doesn't discard (he wants to be able to show people the transceivers don't re-set when you die), are gray now too.
He can hear the roar of the ocean, maybe the squawk of a seabird or a pelican, but the sounds are distant and faraway. Crisp and clean, but it's like they're coming from a world that exists above and around him, but not for him anymore.
He remembers how he felt after Ignacio's betrayal. The absolute, all-consuming rage flowing through him like a fire, burning him from the inside out the way the fire had burned his home to the ground.
He remembers how he felt after his first death here. The same screaming, red-hot rage combined with an intense, visceral shame, and an overwhelming sense of crushing sadness.
Now he's not sure he feels anything. He feels like his body is empty, and hollow. He failed again. He thinks about the promise to Tio that he made, in his mind, before all of this happened with the detective. Hadn't he promised Tio he would behave, that he would work with these people so he could get home? Hadn't he??? And he'd thrown that all away for... what? Because he was infatuated with some backwoods gringo from Louisiana or South Texas or wherever the fuck he's from? (South Texas accent. Louisiana PD. What made him leave one for the other? Better question, who cares?)
He will never get home now. His family's operation is going to crumble into dust because he couldn't keep it in his pants.
And he feels nothing about it, or nothing at all about anything, in his hollow world of black and gray and white.
When he tries to breathe, he feels like his chest hurts. He recalls a scaly hand on the back of his head, forcing him down into the cool water. He can still feel it there, a phantom sensation. He recalls watching in the background, as a cousin has a torrent of water poured on them from above. And most of all, he feels it as the only real thing in his hollow world, the constant, dull pain of an actual, real broken heart.
He scrambles, quickly and very quietly to his feet, and takes off his one remaining boot (but keeps his socks on). He draws his gun, although he intends to use it only for personal protection if he has to. Quickly and quietly, he scrambles to the cover of the nearby jungle to get his bearings. Being on the coast leaves him too exposed; too vulnerable to anyone looking to hunt him down. His heart thuds. He checks the callsign list for Chloe's name, and for Taissa's. If either of them are missing, he knows that's a bad sign for him. Checks his own pulse.
Gets an idea. Wheels always turning. Mind always going.
Except it isn't, is it? His mind, as he recalls, hasn't been working properly since he arrived here. Now his body might not work the way it should, either. Rolls up a pant leg, slowly cuffing all the way up. Inspects the scar tissue on his knees. Traces a finger over it. He wonders if he'll be able to jump the way he used to still. But now isn't the time to try to find out. Too dangerous.
He has to live in the world as it is. Not the world he wishes existed. The world where his brain and his body work like they're supposed to. He has to start from square one. He has to be extremely careful right now. He can find out what he's working with, what tools he has at his disposal, later. He's sickened by his own self-pity, thinking of poor Tio Hector confined to a wheelchair and he's whining about bad knees?
He resolves to make the best of whatever he's got going for him now.
He mutes the device, before slipping off into the jungle.
Lalo's Travel Itinerary:
The actual part you need to know! Since this covers an extensive period of time, I'll try to keep this basic and short and sweet:
>>> I would like for Lalo's path to be Tile XV > Tile XI > Tile VI. If I'm reading the map correctly, he should be able to move diagonally from Tile XI to Tile VI and bypass the insta-death squares. Please let me know if that's not the case!
>>> As much as possible, he will try to stay relatively close to rivers and other water sources. He won't want to travel RIGHT alongside them because that seems like a good way to either get caught by any (nonexistent) hunting parties that might be looking for him, or just become crocodile food. But he won't want to get too far away from them either.
>>> He will be looking for fruits with a lot of juice like oranges, citrus fruits, etc, or plants that have easily accessible water like cacti. He will favor getting hydration from fruit juice over drinking unboiled water, because unboiled water makes him nervous, but he will still drink unboiled water if the only other options are "start a fire or die of thirst".
>>> He will also be looking for weapons or anything that can be used to make weapons, bullets that would go into his gun, ANY edible plants or medicinal plants, any sticks that can be used to make walking canes or spears, any transceiver upgrades or weird tech in general. However, he is trying to travel light, so he won't necessarily take everything he finds if it would weigh him down too much.
>>> He will prioritize moving stealthily above all else and will often moved crouched low to the ground. He will do his best to hide his limp to the extent that he's able to, to make it less obvious any tracks left behind were left by him. He's also removed his boot for this reason; he does not want to leave any bootprints after Rust took his. His priorities right now are moving QUIETLY and STEALTHILY > moving quickly > searching the squares, in exactly that order.
>>> He will also be the lookout for any signs of being watched or followed as well as any human footprints or any signs of human activity nearby. Lalo is extremely observant and will be on high-alert in general so all kinds of details will be interesting to him.
>>> He will have a limp + mobility issues from the scar tissue on his knee so I'm sure both of those will slow him down somewhat! However, he IS somebody who is really really good at performing near-impossible physical feats even under duress/is strong and quick even when injured. His limp slows him down a little in canon but not nearly as much as you'd think, lol.
>>> He will NOT stop for anything unusual unless he's forced to, but he WILL remember what he sees and where, and may or may not come back to it later. He will try to avoid/hide/get out of the way of any threats, if at all possible, rather than confront them. He will be extremely cautious in general and won't try any of the crazy stunts he otherwise might under different circumstances.
>> He will sleep for between 2 - 3 hours each day, and spend another 30 min to an hour awake but resting in place. He will spend the rest of his time moving. When in deep jungle or at night, he will use the flashlight when to make sure he's not going to fall into a hole and break his neck or die. He will try to minimize use of the flashlight as much as possible in case someone sees it/him, but it's a weak crappy 2004 flip phone camera flashlight and not nearly as visible as a fire or a torch so he feels okay using it. He will prefer traveling at night when people are asleep but he'll also travel a lot during the morning and daytime too. He'll try to stay moving and leave as little of a trail as possible.
>>> Thanks to Rust, he knows a little bit about spotting traps now! He's still not anywhere close to an expert, but he knows more than he did before.
SORRY I GUESS THAT'S NOT SHORT AFTER ALL OTL. Anyway lol please lmk if you need clarification or conversely, please lmk if that's too long and you're not reading all that and I'll trim it down some, lmao.

Night 28 > Morning 29
STARTING SQUARE: VI.L.15
ENDING SQUARE: VI.J.13 (or wherever the girls climbed up before) (we hope!)
DETAILS:
Lalo will contact Chloe and Taissa on Night 28, but as previously mentioned, he's not going to risk trying to make the climb in the dark. He will fill the cooler with water, and tie it to the end of the rope when Chloe tosses it down so Chloe and Tai can pull it up. He is NOT going to try to climb with that huge cooler anyway lol. He will also stand a safe distance away so if the cooler does get dropped, he's not in danger of it falling on him. He'll double-knot it and also make sure the cooler is locked (if it has a locking mechanism). If it doesn't have a locking mechanism, he'll also tie rope around the cooler to make sure it doesn't spill while it's getting hauled up. Actually, he'll do that regardless.
Then he'll find an out of the way spot with cover to hide/sleep the rest of the night once he knows if they were successful getting the water up or not. He will listen for the footsteps for a bit before going to sleep to make sure they're not getting closer to him.
In the morning, once there's enough good light to see by, Lalo will try to make the same climb that Chloe and Tai made.
Pros:
* While Lalo doesn't have Chloe's specific skill with climbing ruins, he is an extremely good climber in a general sense. Seriously, he's constantly jumping/climbing/parkouring around even when there's no need to.
* Lalo specifically IS really good at pulling off dangerous, near-impossible physical feats that you wouldn't necessarily expect him to be able to. Including while injured or in pain.
* Athletic and strong; good upperbody strength.
* He'll ditch his stash o' cash to make room for other stuff in his pockets. Anything he can't carry on his person, he'll leave behind, to keep himself as light and unencumbered as possible.
* INSANELY determined and great under pressure.
* Chloe will lower the rope for him and he'll have her climbing pyton as well, which should both help his odds.
Cons:
* I can't imagine traveling so persistently without resting much has been kind to his limp, lol.
* He hasn't eaten anything except a blackberry in, like, 2 days. It's not to the point where he's fainting from hunger or anything (and as noted above, he's good at performing difficult physical feats even when he's hurt/not in the best condition/under duress), but I still feel like this is worth noting.
* He's still got that cough, too.
Fingers crossed! Let's go!

Night 004 --> Morning 005
STARTING SQUARE: VII.J.24
ENDING SQUARE: VII.C.25
DETAILS:
Moved/edited/continued from here.
Lalo will let Jet lead the way back and lend his torch for any food-spotting! Once they get back, Lalo will give the cooler of water, the dandelions, 4 of the 5 bundles of grapes, the taro, and whatever is left of his fish jerky to Jet, Kokichi and Martin permanently. He'll drink some water himself (still leery of eating) and find somewhere in the building to sleep for an hour.
After an hour, he'll get up and start messing with the computer. He'll try to be relatively quiet if everyone else is resting just out of politeness, but he's not trying to hide that he's doing it. He'll start by entering all of the NPC callsigns from the list on the device as potential passwords; I expect this to do absolutely nothing, but let me know if it somehow does since that will affect his next moves. He will also thoroughly inspect the terminal area, although I imagine everyone else has already picked through that thing so clean there will be nothing else left to find lol. Question about the computer: what era tech is it? '80s Macintosh or 2000s Dell? Or something more advanced?
I'm general, what's the overall "vibe" of the building, other than desolate sci-fi monstrosity? What style is it in? When does it look like it was built? Any decor at all or is it completely barren inside?

Hour 1 - 2: VII.K.25 (resting)
Hour 3 - 4: VII.K.25 -> VII.J.24
Hour 5 - 6: VII.J.24 -> VII.I.23

Morning 005
Hour 1: VII.H.22 -> VII.G.23
Hour 2: VII.G.23 -> VII.F.24 (a handful of blackberries)
Hour 3: VII.F.24 -> VII.E.25
Hour 4: VII.E.25 -> VII.D.25 (small bone - looks like a finger bone, maybe?)
Hour 5: VII.D.25 -> VII.C.25
Accomodations inside are just as spartan as the walls. Each cell has a bare mattress on the floor and a toilet set into the back wall, there's a large-ish desk in the center of the room for the terminal to sit on, and the three pedestals for the drones to sit on along the wall opposite the cells.
Hour 5 - 6: VII.C.25 (coordinating with the rest of the group, sleeping)
Hour 7: VII.C.25 (paper clip)
The terminal is a weird combination of old and new tech, perhaps as a consequence of its relative age. It's a big thing, with a square screen and a built-in keyboard and trackpad like a chunky all-in-one desktop, but the screen resolution and speed the computer processes and loads inputs seems a lot faster than something of a similar design should. It's hard to say if the terminal is actually operating on hyper-advanced technology without taking the thing apart, or getting past the login screen to see what programs are loaded on it.
Lalo has 1 hour remaining before Day 005.
