Search Requests


SEARCH REQUESTS



At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.


RULES AND GUIDELINES

  • Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
  • Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
  • Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
  • You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
  • Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
  • Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
  • IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
  • Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

SUBMISSIONS

All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.



IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.

STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.

ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.

DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
  1. The path your character is taking,
  2. The squares you want them to search,
  3. Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
  4. Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.
Again, you can provide as much or as little information as you want; saying that your character is simply moving from point A to point B without searching anything is 100% acceptable.

Well. His luck had to run out at some point. Martin will be suffering a flesh wound to the thigh and having a Very Bad Day as he collects what's left and limps his way inside. He'll tend to the injury with the medical supplies they have at the airfield, then spend his night sulking around one of the hangers and avoiding people.

Oh, and items he's taking:
- olives (he will sulk and eat his salty orbs alone)
- chewed chunk of cable
- swimwear (trunks)
- used bar of soap
- scrap circuit board

Day 24

DETAILS: Harley is going to wake up in the morning next to the plane and then scrounge around again, this time mostly just getting kind of desperate for food.

She'll then attempt the ridiculous climb up into the only way into the cockpit that she can see, using the jeans to wrap up the transceiver to carry like a baby in a bjorn so that both her hands are free. She's confident in the physical shape she's in but she's also never had to climb plane wreckage so this new SOS upgrade is a good plan b.

Day 024

DETAILS: Martin and Jet are going to make a pilgrimage to the Enemy River to the east so that Martin can chuck his message in a bottle out to sea where the river (he thinks) will push it out a little more and further east. Before they do that, though, Jet is going to try plugging in his screechy transceiver and holding his radio underwater in the surf or in the nearby river if there's no hearing anything over the crash of waves. If they can't hear anything above water, they'll try sticking their heads into the water to see if the screeching is less screechy and maybe more like whale songs when they're broadcast in the water.

WOOD DETECTIVE: has the panel of siding been treated? Would Rust be able to tell what kind of wood it is (he has a basic knowledge of trees but wouldn't know anything jungle-specific) or how old it is? How battered/waterlogged is it?

COFFEE DETECTIVE: does the percolator look like it's seen recent use, or is it old/rusted? Any grounds in it?

Dirk grabs the mint, ring, leaf, shoes, animal toy, and mousepad.

With the airfield close now, Dirk slows his pace and decides to poke around the hotel some and crash there for the night. He spends whatever bit of the day is left and an hour or two after night falls exploring the hotel and searching for supplies, and then finds a decent room to bed down in. Assuming nothing goes wrong, he finally wanders over to join the others in the airfield in the morning.

DETAILS: Randvi will check on all of the patients first thing in the morning, but then it's housekeeping time.

She’ll head to the beach at IX.P.9 to get water for the new still, then clear out all the (gross) old reeds people have been sleeping on for a week and replace them with fresh ones (if everything is too rain trampled this might have to be leaves from jungle edge around IX.T.7), then take the comforters to the river to wash with soap.

If there's any time left in the day block she’ll start on a meal for everyone.

AT LAAAAST.

And arduino plot is go, wooo! \o/

K will take the wallet because why not. Might be useful later.

So Chloe and Taissa might be retroactively leaving the group at an earlier date (if they later get crab raved that could just be karma in action...) but that's all still up in the air. But for sure K, Squalo, and the Cat are still together and will just continue on to the airfield during the night. If Taissa and Chloe are still with them, maybe they'll reach the airfield too, or maybe they won't; Schrödinger's lesbians. The important part's that the rescue mission is DONE.

Senku's planning a trip out to meet the Snake player and K will accompany him since it's on the way to Harley's location, so he'll make preparations during the night hours — including packing extra supplies for Harley. He'll also help with some of the general airfield chores, like preparing more bandages for the various injured people to help Randvi out, and set up a bed for the Cat in the same area K himself usually beds down in. Oh, and he'll let Squalo have whatever's left of his whiskey, he probably needs it.

Not sure if the arduino plot will happen here or after they've found Harley (maybe after just so K has an excuse to be babied by his girlfriend hahaha), but K might at least mention feeling technologically unwell to Senku just so he's aware.

Then at some point he'll finally get some well-earned rest. And won't even protest if the Cat decides to be contrary and sleep on him instead of in his own catbed.

Well damn, he was hoping for an adventure. He recognizes that this might be useful if he moves around and needs to quickly orient himself, but at the same time he finds this whole thing very suspicious. Is this a beacon of some sort? Can somebody else see him on their map?

Since he doesn't have a very good idea how technology works, he's going to unplug the upgrade and pocket it until he may need it, assuming that it has therefore stopped working and/or broadcasting his position.

Then, since he's geared up to spend some time in the wild, he's going to do just that -- heading more or less straight north, and gradually exploring the IX tile area between columns AA-FF and rows 3-5. Same as before, he's watching for landmarks, dangers, traps, animal tracks or anything useful, but won't spend too much time thoroughly searching unless something catches his eye first.

Well first things first, he's gonna go try that callsign on that damn bungalow.

If he doesn't get in he'll just go back to camp and take it out on the drone lmao it's fine, and that will clear Day 23.

Night 23
Not much to report here! Maddy sleeps all through the night on Night 23.

Morning/Day 24
She'll explore/wander around the airfield. She'll rest periodically, but she'll eventually get bored and wander around the airfield to say hello to everyone and see what's going on.

On Morning/Day 24, she will thoroughly search the airfield and any surrounding squares for pieces of glass or anything that looks like Senku's cell phone, based on how he described it to her. She will also look for any signs of the shark creature that saved them although she frankly isn't sure what she's looking for. Maybe teeth?

Night 24
Maddy is asleep all through Night 24 until she wakes up on Morning 25.
