Search Requests
SEARCH REQUESTS
At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
- Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
- Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
- Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
- You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
- Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
- Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
- IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
- Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

SUBMISSIONS
All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.
IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.
STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.
ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.
DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
- The path your character is taking,
- The squares you want them to search,
- Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
- Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.

DETAILS:
Levi, Maddy and other Levi are going on a scouting mission! They want to explore the path vaguely in the direction of the PacAir village. They'll resupply at base in the morning and also take a few of the spears that Randvi and/or Squalo have made and left at camp to fend off boars, have a small chat to discuss how to handle emergencies on the field, then set off eastwards!
They'll first be aiming roughly toward the middle of tile X (somewhere around T-X.13-16), but obviously the path won't be straightforward as neither of the Levis can swim, so after running into the first Enemy River they will be following it upstream, looking for a safe place to cross.
Levi (sr) is going to be full-attention scouting mode, as he has two kids in tow; keeping an eye out for any tracks or suspicious movement, checking for traps, listening to noises, and generally staying on high alert and moving carefully; he will take point while instructing Levi (jr) to walk last so they have the civilian (Maddy) in the middle.
If it starts getting dark while they're still near the river, whether having crossed it or not, they will look for a place suitable to camp there (possibly use Squalo's old site at VI.H.29 if they make it that far; if not, Levi will look for suitable trees to climb in the jungle, though he'll settle for a ground camp if they find none. He'll use his tent cover and tarp to give them something of a roof/cover for the night. At least one of them will be awake at all times keeping watch).

General Search Results:
It's actually pretty fortuitous of the group of people who can't swim to be making a trip after the great Crab Collapse. Huge rafts of coconut crab corpses span two of the three rivers they come across, making them trivial the cross. The third one seems to have cleared its blockage and forces them to go upstream a bit, into the deeper, vibrant rainforests of tile X, before they find a crossing point at the end of Day 029.
As they head south from river three to river four, they find a significant deforestation event has occurred in squares X.M.20 through X.M.22, and quite a few others to the east and west, although the full extent of the damage is hard to see with how dense the rubble is, and looks just has hard to travel through as the healthy forest surrounding it. The band of uprooted and snapped trees ends at the bay.
Three sets of eyes help in finding a good place to camp in square X.M.19: A large tree, easily twenty feet across, with plenty of low branches to rest in and exposed roots to cover with a tarp.

Levi will try to find a tall sturdy tree that he could climb for a better vantage point of the deforestated area. Is there anything he'd be able to tell from that? Does it look like something giant had dragged itself through? (He's seen titans do it, so he'd probably recognize it if so.)
Once they pick the resting spots he'll extend the covers overhead to protect themselves from any potential rain and such. They'll also have some food and water that they brought with them. Levi will most likely not sleep (yet), keeping an eye (and ear) out for anything suspicious in the jungle and watching the kids.
I understand this is when Maddy is disappearing -- since at least one Levi, possibly both, are going to be awake at the time, what would it look like? Any accompanying noise or anything else happening, perhaps something conveniently turning their attention away for a moment, etc?

Maddy's disappearance is sudden and unexpected, with absolutely no signals that it is about to happen until, after a moment when both Levis are looking away from her, she just isn't there anymore. Nothing happens to deliberately draw their attention away; it's more of a subtle effect, like having their minds and eyes wander at the same time.

The Levis will spend about an hour freaking out about it. They'll try calling Maddy, looking for any fresh tracks around, anything leading to or from her sleeping spot and similar. They'll search the area thoroughly for any traces of her or clues what happened -- it seems that they may locate (at least some of) her belongings, which should give Levi (sr) some idea what may have happened as he's aware of the Zam incident.
Still, just because there's one possible explanation doesn't mean he'll just roll with it and call it a day. Just in case something did happen to her.
Levi (jr) will be expanding the search to the surrounding squares (the 8 squares directly around X.M.19, more details in his own request!), and Levi (sr) is going to mostly stay put in case she returns, but sort of move around the edges of the square to be quickly available if the other Levi needs help.
Levi (sr) will make some markers, carving arrows in several trees around the perimeter of the square all pointing toward the big napping tree. The napping tree gets a little more brutalized; he uses his tools (knife & can opener) to strip roughly an A4-sized section of its bark so he can carve a message into it.
Here he remembers that he doesn't even know what language Maddy speaks so he'll opt for (badly) drawn stick figures to express what he hopes will be understood as If you find this, wait here. A figure with a square resembling a transceiver and a sad face :( next to the tree, and two more figures further away with some arrows around implying they're rushing toward it. Something roughly like this, maybe.
He'll also be calling Randvi since he decided she's their de-facto mission leader.

General Search Results:
No signs of Maddy remain aside from her possessions that she found on the island that are still on her person, which are now in a pile where she used to be. There are no tracks or other clues that would indicate what could have taken her so abruptly; it's like she simply vanished into thin air. While Levi (jr) searches the surrounding area, however, Levi (sr) finds some extra marks carved on the trees that he's trying to add arrows to - some distinctly tusk-shaped gouges, most of them waist-height, which he can spot on trees following the river nearby. He can also definitely hear the commotion from Levi (jr)'s search request results when it happens.
Levi's carved message has been marked on the map in square X.M.19.

He's waiting for Levi (jr) to return before they can head back to camp as per Randvi's instructions, but instead, this happens. FUCK. OPERATION IN SHAMBLES. THIS IS WHY HE TELLS PEOPLE TO LET HIM GO PLACES ALONE FFFFFF
Anyway, he will react Normally which is dump the supply backpack (tent, food etc) up in the tree they had been napping in so he can move more easily but keep the potentially fight-useful stuff (probably just the wooden spear, beach umbrella, the shield he crafted and cloth section...and maybe some of those mangoes he just picked up) and dash toward the noise as fast as he can while still watching/checking where he's stepping.
He'll slow down once he's nearby, making use of some bushes and trees for cover/vantage point so he can hopefully spot the source of the commotion (and/or Levi (jr)) before it spots him, or at the very least get some heads-up of what's going on.

Is there anything specific Levi can make out about the boars? Their height/size, if the tracks they left look like normal boars or different, and such?
The Levis have a short conversation and Levi (sr) will lend Levi (jr) his flare gun for the rest of the day with instructions if/when to use it. Then they will proceed to cover the rest of the searches detailed in the previous comments; Jr will check the rest of the surrounding squares (now being extra careful) while Sr will make his tree carving and circle the area to stay within range of Jr.
He's also going to leave one travel bottle with water and one papaya in the tree above the carving -- a visible spot reachable from the ground, but stuck firmly enough between/against some branches that it shouldn't be easily knocked down by the elements.
Once Jr returns (Night 030) they will eat and rest for a couple hours (or until it gets bright enough to see, whichever comes later), and then make their way back to the airfield, trying to follow a generally similar path as before, but adjusting as necessary if the crab bridges are no longer there.
Oh yeah also they will be bringing back all of the stuff that Maddy dropped/left behind that didn't disappear!

General Search Results:
The boars are big - nearly Levi's whole height - and hefty. Their fresh tracks leading up to the tree they pinned Levi (jr) under look like they should belong to a normal boar, except scaled to fit their unusual size.
The Levis leave at the start of Morning 031. The crab rafts are gone, but they do manage to find some exposed branches stuck in the current of the river closest to them to give them an easy crossing; the other two rivers, however, they're forced to go the long way around. They camp in square X.E.5 on Night 031 because Levi (jr) is not as much of a goblin about sleeping as Levi (sr), and it's too dark to see well anyway past the river.
