Search Requests


SEARCH REQUESTS



At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.


RULES AND GUIDELINES

  • Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
  • Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
  • Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
  • You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
  • Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
  • Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
  • IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
  • Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

SUBMISSIONS

All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.



IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.

STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.

ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.

DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
  1. The path your character is taking,
  2. The squares you want them to search,
  3. Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
  4. Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.
Again, you can provide as much or as little information as you want; saying that your character is simply moving from point A to point B without searching anything is 100% acceptable.

He won’t press his luck with evil piñata or make any attempts to knock down doors (at least for the time being)—his energy’s flagging and night’s coming.

In preparation for a lovely evening surrounded by objects as damaged as he is, he’ll carefully remove the tent cover from the cuffed drone and (assuming the drone doesn’t revive) put it over evil piñata. He’ll wait about an hour after the announcement that should mark evil piñata’s departure, and if it hasn’t stirred, he’ll drag the shorted-out drone to the entrance and kind of…space it across the doorway as a half-assed alarm. He’ll then try to sleep sitting against the wall behind the desk. Yes, fully clothed. Yes, with his gun beside him.

(Being Rust, he probably still won’t be able to sleep more than two hours at a time, but if he tries for 5-6 hours he can maybe get three hours of sleep.)

Any additional time/weird chunks of insomnia before day 6 he’ll spend investigating the drone plinths (can they be lifted up? how heavy are they and is there anything on the underside? any markings?) and the computer (he’ll try to see how it’s powered, examine the desk for any markings or graffiti, and check if the password prompt is for a certain number of characters).

Yeah he'll take it just because of how weird it is but definitely try to shake critters out of it beforehand! Also picking up the badge for his oddities collection.

Yay sleep. He'll do his best not to pass out completely and probably wake up every now and then to check his surroundings, but he'll most likely sleep 3-4 hours into the morning.

Then he'll continue heading toward VI.T.30 via the path of least resistance.

After pouring a few grateful handfuls of water down her throat, Zam will search the nearby area for shelter or the materials to build one, with the intent of camping out for a while to rest and rehydrate after all that stumbling around in the sun.

Once Beth figures out she's on a beach, she'll orient herself in terms of the water and start walking away from it - a beach is exposed! Even if no one can see her now, they'll see her when the sun comes up! She'll keep walking away from it, probably moving relatively slowly. She's looking for anything useful she could pick up, as well as keeping an eye out for walkers or other bad actors. Once she finds a place she can hide, whether it's somewhere on the beach, at the edge of the jungle (whew, long walk!), etc., she'll stick it out there until first light.

At that point, she'll start trying to look for any and all of the following:
· Food - she only has the shears to fight with, which will make hunting tough for now, and she's not all that conversant in tropical plants, so this will probably be a struggle
· Fresh water
· Weapons
· Shelter
· Rope and noisy trash (i.e., made of plastic or metal or wood, anything able to be strung up on the rope as a kind of burglar alarm)
· Matches, pieces of mirror, etc.
· Anything like a backpack or bag, something that will hold supplies
· She also lowkey likes pocketing small objects, so if there's an especially pretty shell, she'll totally pick it up

In general, her instinct will be to move inland.

DETAILS: Trying to descend into the valley! She won't be searching the areas she passes through thoroughly unless she spots anything of note, but she'll still be moving very carefully, and she's still wearing her camouflage. Her focus is very much on keeping herself hidden and trying to spy on the goings-on surrounding that structure she saw from above. (If I've misunderstood the exact squares necessary for her to descend the tapering bit safely, feel free to adjust as needed.)

This is mostly just a question first - are there any human debris that he can see on this beach/area? I'm assuming no since it's not mentioned but want to be sure! I know it's littered with leaves and fruit, but is it all organic or are there any signs of human life? Animal life? Just curious. Thanks.

Talked to K's player about this and they are going to try and swim the Enemy Rivers as Randvi would be at least somewhat aware of the layout etc thanks to Senku.

Depending on how long it takes they're not going to try and swim in the dark though.

First thing, the Cat is going hunting. He will start off west and stalk whatever animal he finds until he comes across drinkable water. Depending how large the animal is he will then try to kill it.

Day 9

STARTING SQUARE: VII.A.21
ENDING SQUARE: To the west
DETAILS: Martin and the crew will be continuing west. They'll be aiming for the source of the river as a landmark, but try to keep to the foothills until they have to go down into the jungle to reach it. They'll rest there for a short spell to look around and refill their water before continuing west.

Martin, particularly, will be keeping an eye out for predators or signs of predators. He knows that dinosaur and bear are both in the general vicinity, and he suspects there are others. Still moving slowly as a group, trying to be careful not to injure themselves further or move Martin past the point of dizzy exhaustion.
