Search Requests
SEARCH REQUESTS
At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
- Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
- Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
- Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
- You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
- Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
- Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
- IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
- Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

SUBMISSIONS
All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.
IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.
STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.
ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.
DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
- The path your character is taking,
- The squares you want them to search,
- Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
- Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.

In terms of differing constructions, it's the materials that stand out more than anything. The hotel, restaurant, and the accessible bungalows are made out of an assortment of mundane materials used for aesthetics; the hangars are all sturdy metal and spartan, purely function. There also aren't any electrical outlets visible in the hangars (except for the weird one in the floor that Senku already uncovered), whereas the hotel, restaurant, and bungalows are full of two-pin sockets in the walls.
The tower and hotel are climbable insomuch as anything is climbable if you're brave enough. It would probably be really dangerous, though, even with Levi's innate springiness and skill. Would he try to climb one (or both) of them anyway?
Checking the bungalows would involve searching around them at night - how many hours would he spend doing this?
no subject
Well, there is a bit of a difference between "you should know what you're doing and you might still seriously injure yourself" dangerous and "the whole construction is unstable, rusted through and rattles in the wind" dangerous. If it's the latter, he'll decide against it and not risk it.
If it's the former, he'll try climbing the tower first. He'll leave his stuff nearby on the ground so he has more freedom of movement, and he'll be careful, testing each foothold before putting his weight on it and always using at least two different footholds/grips at once so that he can try to stabilize if one fails. If he reaches a point where all grips seem untrustworthy, he'll stop. (He's not as skilled at climbing as Randvi but he does have experience with heights and falling. If that does happen he'll try to catch himself on the construction to slow it down and/or try to minimize injury, e.g. rather break an arm than his neck.)
He doesn't necessarily want to get to the very top, but he would like to get at least above the hangar height and check if there are any (familiar or otherwise) landmarks, buildings or other noticeable things he can see in the distance from there.
Depending how this goes, the rest of exploration might be put off -- I'll get back to it later!

Unfortunately, he is not a vertical parkour specialist without his gear, so after some consideration he decides that keeping all his limbs intact is probably a better call right now and heads back down.
He'll be waiting for some daylight before making it to the bungalows. Depending how much night time there's left, he might look for a secluded corner in the hangars for a couple hours nap to help the time pass along.
He's going to spend up to ~6 hours checking the bungalows out, mostly interested if any of them look suitable for shelter or not (do they have all walls? roofs? are they raised above ground or not? how worn down by time do they look?), but he'll also take note of anything else interesting, as well as keeping an eye out for aforementioned things like containers, fabric, rope, or weapons/crafting materials.

Most of the bungalows are missing some of their internal or external structure - a wall or supporting pillar, parts of the roof, the like - but they aren't in such bad shape that they couldn't be patched up or repurposed if desired, and most of them have at least one completely enclosed room, even if it's just a closet or former bathroom. The exception to this is, of course, the locked bungalow, which looks like it's in excellent condition. All of the bungalows are raised on stilts.

He will try to pick out the least damaged bungalow and make a note what kind of parts its missing (a log for a pillar, planks or aiship pieces for a hole in the roof etc), though he's not actively looking to fix it just yet, still hoping that this is very temporary. BUT he's going to keep an eye out for anything useful to that end as he goes around.
He'll eat some mangos (and maybe nab some extra food from Team Science stock), refill his water and set out to explore the nearby jungle again.
Mainly aiming for the uncovered rows 7-8 in columns AA-EE, and maybe also the rows 9-10 under them. Depending how long it takes he might take a break or look for a place to rest. In addition to previously mentioned containers, weapons and crafting materials, he's also looking for
more mangosfruit, any signs of buildings, people, or a large enough tree that could support atreehouseplatform high above ground. He's also being careful with his movements, keeping an eye out for danger and decked in a green cloak; he should be decent enough at scouting as it was basically his job for quite some time.no subject

The aluminum sign is definitely usable to reinforce his makeshift buckler.
Levi takes stock of bungalow 2, which appears to be the least damaged of the accessible houses from the outside. Inside looks like a tornado came through; a lot of the floor has caved in due to several missing stilts underneath, and the wall separating the main living area from what probably used to be a bedroom has come down with it.
Over the next day and change, Levi is able to explore the forest between squares IX.AA.7 and IX.EE.9. He has to camp out in the forest during Night 014, which is not pleasant because he doesn't find a good tree to climb in. His further searching of the forest the next morning into Day 015 also doesn't yield any promising candidates.

As it is day 15, while near base, he'll also turn up to get more soap from Senku. Then he'll head toward the same spot at the river he's used before (IX.FF.10 -> X.B.10) to have another laundry day, bar any interruptions or signs of danger.
After that, he follows the treeline toward the area where
Squalosomebody had been chopping down trees for the raft, and look for wood chips that he could fashion into needles -- it just needs to be thin, firm and between an inch and two long. Later he'll make a cut at the thicker end to squeeze the thread in like a simplified "eye" (this principle). If he instead finds any other materials like spikes or bones suitable for that, he'll take it instead -- and if he can't find either, he'll resort to getting some fish bones from the camp's endless supply of fish. After that, he'll head back to the hangars at IX.T.9 and settle down to work on his sewing project (he has found a roll of thread earlier, and he will take two beach towels from the shared stock. He'll also take and untangle the tangled fishing line if his thread isn't long enough or doesn't seem sturdy enough and use that instead).
He leaves the nicest towel intact and uses the other two -- the next best one gets folded and stitched into a medium-sized backpack (imagine something roughly in this style, just even simpler), and the second one gets some wide straps cut off of it that he will roll up into several layers to fashion into backpack straps. He grew up Very Poor and later served in the military so at the very least he knows how to patch up his own clothes and wounds. He likely has some simple sewing experience as well, so I imagine the result should have quite good functionality, though it will likely be ugly/rough looking.
Depending how long it takes him, he might decide to take a nap in the middle, in which case he'll probably sneak into the office (sorry, Randvi) and barricade the door because safety first, then slink back out and continue after ~3 hours.

Levi's laundry day takes him into the evening, and the rest of the night through Morning 016 (including nap) to fashion a decent backpack out of his crude but effective sewing needle. Nothing threatening catches his eye during his travels along the river.

Next he wants to check out the restaurant (I believe it was near the hotel?). As usual, he'd look for anything useful, but he'll also want to check if there's a surviving kitchen where he might find some utensils (especially a can opener and/or a spoon).

He's been told that pineapples eat you back (thanks, Senku) so he's leaving them right where he found them. 😬
If nothing drastic happens, he'll spend a couple more hours looking for reasonably sized cutlery then depart to explore an undisturbed looking patch of the beach, which coincidentally happens to be the unexplored zone between columns U-W and lines 14-15 (plus the two singular squares at 13 and 12, as detailed here).
He has good vision and awareness in the dark, as he pretty much grew up in a cave, so he's fine staying out there into the night.

Installing the module will create a new tab on the transceiver's menu bar with an "X" on it. Selecting this tab opens up, after a couple seconds of loading, what appears to be a blank outline of the island, including two smaller outlines some distance off to the southeast. A single crosshatch mark is visible near the western coast. There's a function button at the top left corner that allows Levi to add custom labels, controlling where they sit on the image with the arrow keys on his transceiver. The labels can either be simple dots, dots and text, or saved images (although selecting this last option brings up an error message - "application not defined").

Is the beach carry case something like this, or more like suitcase?
He'll take everything else, except for the rosehip, head back to one of the empty hangars in IX.T.9 and test out his new can opener on the tomato can. Once opened, if not immediately obviously spoilt, he'll sniff it carefully to determine whether it's still suitable to eat or not. If still not clear, he'll taste test a small piece; if it seems fine he'll eat a reasonable portion of it (how large is it exactly? I assume it'd be at least two full servings?).
After that he'll look for a quiet corner to nap for a few hours, and spend the rest of Day 17 helping Team Science prepare for the incoming storm, including helping them drag the raft to the designated place and securing the hangar.

The app works exactly as intended, placing a little "X" at the spot Levi indicates. His can of tomatoes (28 ounces - easily several servings) smells and tastes a bit stale, but not rancid.

He'll use the new one himself to put his beach umbrella in so he can carry it more comfortably and keep his arms free. He also takes the canned meat and the half-dollar coin.
