Search Requests
SEARCH REQUESTS
At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
- Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
- Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
- Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
- You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
- Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
- Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
- IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
- Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

SUBMISSIONS
All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.
IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.
STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.
ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.
DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
- The path your character is taking,
- The squares you want them to search,
- Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
- Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.
Jet Link/002 | Cyborg 009
Day1
STARTING SQUARE: XI.R.28
ENDING SQUARE: As far as he can go heading East by Southeast along the beach
DETAILS: Jet's keeping an ear on the trouble on the radios, but largely doing his own recon, looking for signs of the evil scientists or government black ops he expects has kidnapped them!
He'll pick up anything that looks like it could be a tool now or someday...like maybe a good sized rock/stick or even seaweed.
no subject
Hour 1: XI.R.28 -> XI.T.24 (human metacarpal bone - cleaned)
Hour 2: XI.T.24 -> XI.X.23 (small dead squid - reasonably fresh)
Hour 3: XI.X.23 -> XI.BB.22 (tangled fishing line)
Hour 4: XI.BB.22 -> XI.DD.19 (small crab - looks like a fiddler; alive but easily catchable)
Hour 5: XI.DD.19 -> XI.AA.16 (large crab - coconut crab of some variety? alive and catchable, if you don't value your fingers)
Hour 6: XI.AA.16 -> XI.CC.12 (dead jellyfish - species indeterminant)
Hour 7: XI.CC.12 -> XII.A.11 (bottlecap)
Hour 8: XII.A.11 -> XI.FF.7 (section of tangled net - made of a hemp-like material)
Day 001
Hour 1: XI.FF.7 -> XII.C.4 (large whelk shell)
Hour 2: XII.C.4 -> VIII.A.32 (partial sea turtle shell)
Hour 3: VIII.A.32 -> VIII.C.29
Hour 4: VIII.C.29 -> VIII.D.25 (young sea bird - alive and probably catchable, although it doesn't have a lot of meat on it)
Hour 5: VIII.D.25 -> VIII.A.24 (large crab - this one looks like a blue land crab, male and feisty, but catchable)
Hour 6: VIII.A.24 -> VII.CC.22 (watermint)
The footprints he's been tracing look like they were also stymied by the river, and clearly follow its banks west. There's also a clearly-visible smoke trail from a campfire in that direction.
Jet still has 2 hours remaining before Night 001. He'll have plenty of opportunities to find and gather rocks, sticks, and leaves on his walk.

Day 003
STARTING SQUARE: VII.C.25
ENDING SQUARE: VII.C.25
DETAILS: Now that he has a few things to go on, he'll spend the morning nursing Martin.
During the Day, he'll check behind the computer in case he's lucky and the keeper of this place left the password on the back of the monitor or any sort of string of nonsense letters and numbers that might be a password.
After that, he'll inspect the drones that are left for anything noteworthy (do they have a password on them?? Weak points etc.) and baring anything notable there...he's going to try seeing if he can pick one of them up to like...use gravity against it and drop it again.
no subject
Hour 1: VII.C.25
As Jet starts to turn his attention to the drones, the drone in the center starts to activate, hovering just a few inches off the platform while its rotors rev up. There's a faint buzzing noise as the aperture between its front two prongs narrows and widens, like it's an eye focusing in on Jet from across the room. He probably only has moments to do something before it reacts to his presence.

Late Day 004
STARTING SQUARE: VII.C.25
ENDING SQUARE: VII.K.25
DETAILS: Starting from the concrete structure, Jet will be moving (slowly with his injuries) towards where Lalo told him he's stopped moving. Though, he'll be keeping an eye out for a stick that looks big enough and strong enough to maybe use as a walking stick.
no subject
If Jet still hasn't reached him after three hours, Lalo will start moving again and text Jet to let him know, keeping Jet informed of his general trajectory. If they're together, or if they meet up, he'll also let Jet lean on him for support it Jet needs to.

Morning 008
STARTING SQUARE: VII.G.20
ENDING SQUARE: VII.G.20
DETAILS: After several days of their slow movement and resting as much as he can, he's going to start getting a little antsy. He's not going to stray far, but once there's even a little bit of light, he's going to get up and look for anything useful in the area, even if that means trying to...sorta climb trees. With a bum knee.
Mostly he's looking for other resources or suitable containers for water or more materials he can use to brace his knee besides the hemp net which is probably starting to fray.
no subject
General Search Results:
It's now the start of Day 008. Thankfully, Jet does not have to climb any trees to acquire these items.

Day->Night 11
STARTING SQUARE: VI.S.18
ENDING SQUARE: VI.S.18
DETAILS: Jet's just been following along with Martin and Kokichi and not looking for or picking up much that doesn't look like a tool or food. Once they've found the campsite and the 'bridge' they might be able to cross, Jet's going to start looking around for anything he can use to tie with what he can use of his tangled fishing line and broken hemp netting to fashion some sort of useable rope (along with the usual need of food and potential tools or useful items.)

Day 12-15
STARTING SQUARE: VI.R.18
ENDING SQUARE: As far as they can get while being somewhat careful but not leisurely
DETAILS: Doubling up with Martin's search as they go, but when they get to VI.K.14, he will want to try and see if he can spot any sort of surveillance attached to the buildings (or on what remains of the buildings) as they pass, if it's not too far away to tell.
no subject
Starting Square: VI.L.15
Ending Square: IX.T.9
Duration: 72 hours
General Search Results:
Jet's group skirts around the dangerous terrain of the mountain that the ruins are stuck on top of, and within a few hours they find the river again on the other side, now turbulent and too wide to cross. It continues all the way to the coastline, where it pours over the sheer, rocky cliffs bordering the ocean in a spectacular waterfall in square V.EE.8. They also pass by several oceanside caves: One in V.Y.12, two close together in V.V.15 and V.V.17, and another in V.P.19. Finally, after following the coast for the better part of two days, they eventually spot the abandoned airfield just before night falls on Day 014, wandering onto the airstrip during the first hours after sunset.
Aside from all the scenery, their journey is fairly uneventful. It's a little too far away for Jet to see any distinct signs of surveillance, active or otherwise; he does spot that the complex is pretty large, though, covering almost three square kilometers of terrain on top of the mountain, so there are plenty of areas where cameras or patrolling drones could be hiding.

Day 15-16
STARTING SQUARE: IX.T.9
ENDING SQUARE: VI.K.14 or VI.K.13, whichever he will get to first with his backtracking
DETAILS: Jet's gonna go check out that office building! He'll leave early morning 15 and keep a decent (but not rushing) pace to make his way back on his own and see what he can see. He won't prioritize searching the trail back so much as traveling from A to B.
no subject
Starting Square: IX.T.9
Ending Square: VI.K.15
Duration: 12 hours
General Search Results:
Jet makes it back to where he can see the abandoned office complex, but the buildings are at the top of a pretty steep cliff towering over the river he's followed to get there. Trying to climb up seems like it would be pretty risky without a plan; what will Jet do to overcome this?

Morning 17-Morning 21
STARTING SQUARE: VI.K.14, VI.K.13
ENDING SQUARE: Whichever he happens to end up in, he won’t leave the building
DETAILS: With being rained in, Jet will make conservative use of his MREs and containers to catch water where there’s breaks in the building and continue his (careful) exploration. This includes eventually heading back north and taking the West path he didn’t take before.
He’ll probably run out of bomber jacket room eventually so at some point he’ll start stashing the things he finds unless he happens upon a backpack or suitcase or something.
If he finds any surviving pen and paper, he’s also going to start mapping out as much of the building as he can with rudimentary cartography skills.
no subject
Starting Square: VI.K.14
Ending Square: VI.J.13
Duration: 80 hours
General Search Results:
The more intact sections of the building help to keep Jet safe and relatively dry from the storm during his prolonged stay (although there's more than one instance of lightning definitely striking the roof, and powerful gusts of wind blowing new shards of glass out of already shattered windows like shrapnel, Jet manages to remain unharmed). Traveling through the mostly destroyed section in VI.K.13 is a bit more perilous, but also profitable; most of the items Jet finds are from this square, tumbled in from the storm.
Jet only manages to get a rudimentary look through square VI.J.13 - it's mostly hallways and closed doors, set up like the real guts of an office complex rather than the opulent main hall to the south. A lot of doors are locked or jammed shut. There are a few intact stairwells, but whether or not the landings on the other floors are unblocked is more of a gamble.

21->24
STARTING SQUARE: VI.J.13
ENDING SQUARE: IX.T.9
DETAILS: Just putting this under Jet's search request for reference, he'll go back down the questionable ladder with his haul of stuff (and his new map carefully stored away) in search of Jade at the bend in the river she mentioned. If it's visible from the top of the cliff, he'd look from there first just so he knows where he's going.
Then he'd head towards her and work to stabilize her as best he can with what he has or can find to do so and get her water and some of the food from the MREs to keep her energy up until Randvi finds them on 022. From there it's Homeward Bound with trading off carrying Jade and carrying stuff until they can get back to the airbase!

Day 025-026
STARTING SQUARE: IX.X.11
ENDING SQUARE: VI.J.13
DETAILS: Following up with Jet's own search in tandem with Martin's, though he is going to be keeping an eye out specifically for anything he thinks might prove useful for injuries in case anything with Martin's wound gets worse or strains it further than local wildlife has already done.
Quietly, of course, he's not going to show he's worried.
More personally, as they pass the office structure again, he's just going to keep an eye out for other ways up now with fresh eyes, either with better climbing spots or other death-defying ladders..

Day 29
STARTING SQUARE: II.B.28
ENDING SQUARE: ??
DETAILS: while Jet and Martin play hot and cold with Jet’s radio, Jet’s also going to be keeping an ear out for any patterns or sounds in the screeching itself in case there’s a signal in it.
Also keeping a weather eye out for hostile animals that might think Martin looks like a threat.

Day 30-35
STARTING SQUARE: II.C.18
ENDING SQUARE: VII.W.8
DETAILS: Curious if Jet will feel the same 'don't go there' compulsion Martin does and also looking for his own share of provisions to keep them going as well as any receptacles for either water or general items for Martin's continued waystation efforts

Day 40
STARTING SQUARE: VI.T.2
ENDING SQUARE: VI.T.2
DETAILS: While the
CatMartin is away, Jet's gonna take advantage of being left alone to do some digging. His second attempt at the panel is already covered by Martin's search request, but he'll also do his part to look around for resources or other methods of entering this supposed bunker. He might leave the square to one neighboring in any direction if something seems interesting, but he won't go too far from where Martin will be expecting him.(no subject)
