Search Requests


SEARCH REQUESTS



At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.


RULES AND GUIDELINES

  • Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
  • Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
  • Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
  • You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
  • Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
  • Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
  • IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
  • Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.



IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.

STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.

ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.

DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
  1. The path your character is taking,
  2. The squares you want them to search,
  3. Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
  4. Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.
Again, you can provide as much or as little information as you want; saying that your character is simply moving from point A to point B without searching anything is 100% acceptable.

After conferring with Senku on this, they are going to agree to give up on the hotel for now.

IC DATES: Day 5 morning -> Day 6 night
STARTING SQUARE: IX.W.12
ENDING SQUARE: IX.T.9
DETAILS: They’re going to spend the rest of day 5 and most of day 6 trying to get some better food security.

Day 5 morning: head east along the edge of the jungle to the river (IX.EE.11) to scout out a place to fish and/or to set snares. Randvi probably can't take down a bigger animal like a deer or boar yet even with her hammer but small game seems feasible. Also she should at least try and splash some water on her face and wash the cut on her arm (from the day 1 tumble while climbing). Estimating that this will take most of the rest of the morning.

Day 5 Day: head back to around IX.V.9 to collect more firewood (this should get her to about hour 4 or 5). Start a fire and prepare fish if they caught any, otherwise it's their other can of tuna. Hang out by the campfire for a bit then go to sleep around 2 hours into night.

Then Day 6 will follow the same pattern: fill water bottles if there is enough fresh water, refill the still from the sea.

Head to IX.EE.11 to check and replace snares and/or fish, then head back to IX.T.9, which should get through the morning block.

Day block, search one of the hangars she hasn't looked in yet for a few hours (especially looking for intact tools or an office space if there is one), then prepare some of the meat if they caught any.

Go to sleep around hour 3 of night 6 and then I think new robofriend K is showing up in the middle of the night.

**These are really nothing special days just to get them caught up to the in game day unless someone encounters some terrible mishap lol**

Jet's probably dozing at best or awake at worse because you need Watches for places like this...so probably moodily staring into the fire, missing his harmonica for how quiet it is.

Definitely leaving the power cord, then. Leaving the earring hook too.

Taking: lockpick, small strip of cloth, one handful of blackberries (he'll eat them out of his hand as he walks), small pouch with drawstring, the bullet casing (the gun he has with him is a 9mm, so who knows, maybe Senku or somebody else smart like that can refill it sometime)

While the crab is chilling peacefully, Lalo will quickly capture but not kill her (yet), carrying her with him. He'll hold her claws -out as best he can to try to avoid getting pinched, but if he does then he does. He won't drop her even if she pinches. I'm going to say he probably drops something in the process of carrying her, though — let's say one of the computer wires he took from the drone prison building.

He'll fill his watertight conch shell with water to boil, then cross the river moving north diagonally to VII.I.16. There, he'll make himself a small campfire using the coal he grabbed earlier as kindling. At this point, he will use the crossbow bolt he found earlier to spike the crab and kill her. He'll let the water boil, then let the fire burn down until it's just embers, smokey coal remnants, and a few small flames. He'll put the now dispatched crab directly on the coals so it gets a smokey flavor while he drinks his water and waits for the crab to finish cooking. As soon as it does, he'll gobble it down. YUM!

He's also going to take off his shoes and socks to let them dry by the fire since they're probably wet from crossing the river.

DETAILS: After waking up, Dirk will take a few minutes taking stock of his situation, listening to the radio chatter and talking with people. After that, he'll get up, pick up that mangrove branch he was being poked with, and cautiously follow the footprints leading off into the jungle. He halts if the footprints disappear into heavier undergrowth or anything, and calls out a general "I come in peace etc etc".

He spends around fifteen minutes internally freaking out, getting his bearings, and trying to see any hints for where he is from his current position. Then he heads south.

He'll still be keeping an eye for any clues or landmarks or whatever might get his attention, but also moving fairly fast because he has places to be, thanks. He has decent vision in the dark so he should still be able to spot anything dangerous in time.

He'll follow the shoreline until he runs into an obstacle, or the sun starts rising at which point he's going to retreat into the treeline and go in deep enough that he's confident the vegetation is hiding him from anyone wandering by, and once again keep looking around for any clues to what the fuck is going on or other oddities.

He'll pick up all of those items and try a berry, trying to determine if it's safe to eat. If it doesn't seem immediately suspicious, he'll scoop some handfuls into his jeans-turned-bag. His coat has probably also become one at this point.

He'll try following the animal path, since if they're trying to get to the lake, it probably means it's drinkable, right? If he does that, does there seem to be a relatively safe (for an athletic person) way into the caldera and back? He wants to touch that water, damn it.

If not, he'll head down south to the closer river spring to get some water into his bottle and into himself, then head toward the man-made structure to the northeast, keeping an eye out for danger or anything suspicious as usual.

All right, we are officially stalking Rust I guess! She's going to head southwest (or whichever direction these little markers point her in) either until it's dark or she loses the trail.

He'll touch it, then if it doesn't burn his finger try to taste it. Anything he might notice? And yeah, he's using the bottle to get some volcano water in that case!

After that he'll still stick to the same path as detailed earlier, go to the spring to actually drink some water (keeping the volcano water in the bottle though!) then head toward the earlier spotted structure to the northeast. If he can't make it there before it gets dark, he'll be looking for a safe looking tree or hole between rocks to rest in and continue onward in the morning.

Zam will spend some time picking over the wreckage for anything useful, but will not be willing to dig too extensively in her current state. After searching the wreckage, she'll spend the remaining hours of daylight heading north back into the forest, still prioritizing the search for water. Regardless of the result, once night begins to fall, she'll try to find a place to sleep. If she found a water source, she'll try and set up camp in that area. If not, she'll just be sleeping on the ground again.
