Search Requests


SEARCH REQUESTS



At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.


RULES AND GUIDELINES

  • Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
  • Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
  • Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
  • You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
  • Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
  • Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
  • IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
  • Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.



IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.

STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.

ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.

DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
  1. The path your character is taking,
  2. The squares you want them to search,
  3. Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
  4. Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.

DETAILS: Per K's arrival message: The fine white sand under your back still retains some of the warmth from a long day, but aside from that and the persistent sound of waves rolling into your feet, it's hard to tell what else is going on around you in the dark of night.

K's unsettled realising he can no longer see in the dark like usual, and he's immediately more cautious than he'd otherwise be as a result. This wouldn't be the first time he's been physically altered upon arrival in a zany new world, so he'll be paying close attention to his body, and probably start noticing he feels weaker and more vulnerable to the elements/fatigue/hunger/thirst/etc. than he's used to being. That doesn't bode well...

Without sunlight or a fire it seems futile trying to dry his clothes and he doesn't particularly want to strip down either, so he'll just remain soggy for the time being. But he will do what he can to dry his electronics and gun. He'll wait for his mobile devices to fully dry before checking to see if either is picking up any sort of signal or GPS data, and also check the date/time/compass to see how they're behaving. But being an old hand at multiverse travel means he doesn't really expect much to work correctly here, so he won't spend long fiddling with his electronics; he wants to conserve battery life. He'll use the flashlight function to get a better look around his immediate surroundings, though.

He's on the lookout for... anything at all. First and foremost, any signs of Harley or other people/animals, anything that might provide clues about where he is, any useful items, any notable landmarks. He'll also take careful note of anything in the night sky that might indicate whether or not he's on a version of Earth. With the Meadous having such a uniquely distinct sky, he'll be able to quickly rule out that as a possible location, at least.

DETAILS: K will spend some time in the morning preparing supplies enough for another several day rescue mission with Squalo this time, including making an improvised tarp-stretcher that may or may not be needed, depending on whether it's better/faster to simply take turns carrying Chloe. Also K will take some dried fish treats specifically for the Cat. Once they're both ready, they'll embark.

They'll take familiar routes east into the X tile and follow the river at X.A.11 up to X.H.1, heading north into the VI tile, and continuing in a northeastern direction into the VII tile. Since Squalo has been through the area before, they'll mostly prioritise taking paths he knows. They'll also give the infamous death cabin at VII.K.8 a wide berth. They'll rest at night and travel when it's light out.

For K's part, he'll be alert and cautious and won't take unnecessary risks; it's a rescue mission, they won't be much good to anyone if they get injured along the way. And they're both well armed in case they encounter any trouble.

Hopefully this isn't too vague to work with! Let me know if we need to provide more specifics for any point of the journey.

Day 017

DETAILS: Once the rescue team reaches their destination with help from the Cat, he'll be rewarded with some dried fish treats and introductions will be made. But this isn't a social call, and K will quickly get down to business inspecting Chloe's injury and helping to clean it using some of the whiskey he found. She'll also be offered a drink of it before he heats Chloe's own knife and, with her permission, carefully cauterises her wounds. He's performed this on himself before and knows to avoid burning healthy tissue, so it may not be pretty and will hurt like hell, but it should help significantly to stave off infection. With another dousing of whiskey to finish the job, he'll rebandage Chloe's injury using clean strips cut from the beach towel or blanket he packed. He intends to have these regularly changed, either doing it himself or leaving it to Chloe and/or Taissa, whichever Chloe prefers.

K, Squalo, and Taissa will get the makeshift stretcher situation sorted with Chloe on it, the Cat will be invited to ride on K's shoulders, and then they're off. Sometime during the day block they'll notice the ominous looking sky, and those at the airfield camp will also warn them of what looks like an oncoming storm.

Per Squalo's suggestion, they'll head for Martin's jail at VII.C.25 to take shelter, because it seems like a safer bet than trying to make it back to the airfield. Whoever takes point (most likely Taissa) will be given the sturdy branch K picked up to check for any traps in their path.

Whenever Squalo finally passes out from manic exhaustion, he's getting tucked in.

DETAILS: Once the storm has finally abated, K will rouse the others (Squalo, Taissa, Chloe, Cat) and head for the airfield base at the earliest opportunity before anyone can go even more stir-crazy. The Cat is invited to ride on his shoulders again, and whoever takes point is given both branches to check for traps just in case — they'll be sticking as much as possible to the route he and Squalo previously took. Oh, they'll also make a brief stop at the giant wooden sculpture of a bird that nearly killed K so Chloe can try her bracelet magic on it. K isn't entirely sure what that even means but he's curious too.

The strange lights in the sky will be noted but since they don't seem to pose an obvious threat, he'll urge the others to keep going.

He'll check on the status of his fishing weir at IX.EE.11 along the way, fully expecting it will need to be rebuilt, alas. That can be done later. The priority is getting everyone back to the airfield safely. He's already heard that there's even more people in need of rescuing so there's no time to waste.

DETAILS: Since I think it's now safe to assume both Senku and Harley will still be alive on this day—

Very early in the morning of day 26, K and Senku will make their final preparations (including rations enough for 3 people), pack their "offerings" for the gods, and set out for the caldera in hopes of meeting the Snake player. K's hoping to get a proper look at the Snake player since he plans to carve a little figurine of them to potentially give them later on. A gift just for them.

K previously sent Harley an ASCII map of the island with instructions to head toward the caldera as well, so they can meet up — along with a warning not to actually enter it or get too close; they fully intend to honour their agreement with IN732Q. Only one friend is accompanying Senku.

K's bringing one of the simple spears he made and because it's practically second nature by this point, he'll be using the blunt end to check for traps along the way. Safety is obviously the priority, but since the storm might've turned up some interesting new finds, feel free to have them travel through some unexplored tiles while heading for the caldera. They'd of course avoid any areas that seem blatantly unsafe, but veering off the beaten path here and there is fine.

DETAILS: K and Senku will have done their best to be diplomatic and respectful with IN732Q, so this is assuming all goes well! Trying to catch K, Senku, and Harley up to the current game day, starting with seeing how they fare during the crab rave.

After the encounter with IN732Q, K and Senku swing by Harley's location and pick her up, then the trio will head directly back to the airfield, with K resuming trap-checking duty using his spear — and this time, he's also prepared to use it on any boars that might try charging them. (Which could double as avenging Senku and Martin while acquiring some future bacon for Harley, win/win.) They've been hearing about all the boar and crab difficulties people are facing back at base, so returning to help with that is the priority now. OOCly we're also trying to avoid any event related instadeath, so ideally they'll nyooom through that upper part of the X tile and avoid the giant crab construct altogether 🙏 since they won't go near the bay.

Day 029
K continues with the usual airfield maintenance and chores and settling into island life with Harley, including setting up more of their own little area in one of the hangars. Due to the vibriosis risk, he'll be steadily clearing out the crab carcasses and crabmeat rather than attempting to preserve any of it, womp womp. He'll cook up any freshly killed crabs, though. And he does his daily map sharing and works more on his carving of IN732Q.

Day 030
Same as above. K will also check around to see if he can find and spear any boars for food (bacon bacon bacon), while keeping an eye out for: any signs of Maddy, any items he could gift Harley, any pretty stones for IN732Q.

Day 031
Once Squalo has finished cutting wood for the fishing weir, K gets to work rebuilding it in IX.EE.11. And continues his daily map sharing.

Day 032
K and Randvi will see Senku, Squalo, and Dirk off on their rafting adventure, K assisting as needed and promising to keep the Medusa safe for Senku. He'll then continue rebuilding the weir if it wasn't finished on 31. And of course, daily map sharing.

Day 033
Another day for rebuilding the weir if it's needed, or the usual airfield maintenance and chores if it's not, and he'll start checking the weir for fish. He'll periodically check in with the raft team if the transceivers reach that far, and will ask Randvi if he and Harley can borrow her climbing equipment for whenever they go on their island date to investigate the plane wreckage(s) (which he'll still consider a date even if they invite more people along). Also the usual daily map sharing.


And I think I'll pause K here just in case anything significant happens on any of these days that could affect things going forward.

He'll be checking the fishing weir daily. Does he find anything? With the increasing boar threat and unusual happenings (Randvi's snares and the message that was left for Maddy being destroyed), there's been concerns that something may be attempting to mess with the airfield's food sources...

And in light of that, he'll also join Randvi's patrols.

For searches, he'll specifically be on the lookout for chalk or limestone so Senku can make lime for tanning purposes, clothing or material to make clothes from, pretty stones, and any woodworking tools (hatchet, axe, saw, hammer, etc.) for himself.

DETAILS: K, Harley, and Steph will set out early on the morning of day 41 with ample supplies, spears, and climbing gear in the hopes of exploring the massive airplane fuselage Harley previously spotted to the west of her camp in VI.AA.29. (K's also considering making a brief detour alone to leave a gift for IN732Q where it's likely to be found, but alas he won't get the chance to.)

They'll travel as far in that direction as they're able to until night 42, which is of course when all hell breaks loose at the airfield with the boar siege. At that point they'll head right back to the airfield ASAP to help handle the situation and/or deal with the fallout. Hopefully the teens at the airfield won't be left alone for long.
