Search Requests
SEARCH REQUESTS
At game start, the map is completely unexplored and covered by a "fog of war" obscuring its features. New characters will be randomly dropped onto the island's shores; from there, to uncover tiles on the map and figure out more about where they are, search requests are required to document movement, attempt to uncover hidden materials and passages, discover or confront dangers, find old ruins and create new settlements, and potentially, solve puzzles related to the mystery of the island itself.
RULES AND GUIDELINES
- Search requests are a required mechanic of this game. A search request for the current AC cycle must be submitted in order to pass AC without a strike.
- Mistakes in search requests will never be penalized. Don't be afraid to eyeball a distance or make an approximate guess; if the math doesn't quite match up, or the path doesn't exist, I will offer alternate destinations and work with you in order to decide how the search request will resolve.
- Search requests will rarely be immediately fatal. Unless your character is doing something intentionally reckless, I will do my best to offer paths of escape for any sudden dangers that arise.
- You can be as precise or as vague as you want. If you want to exactly plot out the squares your character will travel through and search every IC day, that is totally fine. It's also fine to simply report that your character is staying in one place all month, or to give a starting point and a desired destination, with a general request to search a wide area. Just note that, the more vague you are in your request, the more I will extrapolate to fill in the blanks.
- Retroactive/backdated search requests are allowed. They just can't be used for the current month's AC if they fall outside of the current month's AC period, or overwrite a previously submitted search request. Forward-dated search requests are also allowed as long as they fall within the same IC day that the request was posted (for example, if you post a search request on IC Day 30 morning, you can make that search request last for the entirety of IC day 30, not just the morning of).
- Thoroughly searching a square, rather than just traveling through it, halves movement through that square. So if you choose to search every square along a path, you'll only travel half as far as someone moving with purpose to a destination. Remember that simply traveling through a square will still fully reveal it.
- IC Days are split into three 8-hour increments. Each of these corresponds to one OOC day. Morning is from 4AM -> 11:59AM, Day is from 12PM -> 7:59PM, and Night is 8PM -> 3:59AM.
- Several examples of search requests are provided below to help illustrate how they work. If you still have questions, please ask them in the FAQ (or in your search request!).

SUBMISSIONS
All new characters will be given a toplevel to this post. To submit a search request, fill out the below form and copy/paste it as a response to your toplevel.
IC DATES: The IC dates the search request covers (I would also recommend putting this in the subject line to make it easier to keyword search later). You can use whole days, partial days, or a combination of either. To verify what IC days line up with real-world days and events, consult the Calendar.
STARTING SQUARE: The square your character is starting their search request on, format TILE.COLUMN.ROW. This should line up with your previous search request, or your starting location if newly arrived/revived.
ENDING SQUARE: The square your character is ending their search request on. If you're not sure where they'll end up (the area is unexplored/your character has a vague idea of where they want to go/you're not sure on the math/etc.), you can give a more rough answer here. Something like "they want to make it to Tile II," or "as close to II.AA.3 as possible" are perfectly valid answers.
DETAILS: The meat of your request. This is where you describe:
- The path your character is taking,
- The squares you want them to search,
- Any special actions your character is taking during this period of time (or inaction), and
- Any other special notes or questions you might have about this request.
Squalo Superbi | Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Day 001
STARTING SQUARE: IX.FF.16
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
First of all, he's taking a look around from the square he landed on. He heard someone mention mountains over the radio, so he'll be checking if he can see that in the distance.
Afterwards, he's searching the general area for any debri/stones/tree parts that he can use to write out an SOS on the shore, just far enough from water that it (hopefully) doesn't get washed away by a tide. If he can find enough things to use, the letters will be about a human's height.
After that, he's moving north toward the river, and following its east bank for about three hours, to see where it takes him.
He's alert for any danger, but not overly careful, and mostly keeping an eye out for obvious things - any crates, debris, tall trees, edible fruit, and anything that might stand out or look like it doesn't belong.
no subject
Hour 2: IX.EE.14 -> X.A.11
Hour 3: X.A.11 -> X.D.9
Squalo's observations would indicate that the ground is sloping steadily upwards the further north he goes. However, the thick, early morning fog obscures anything visible in the far distance, save what might be a shadowy bulk that could be clouds hanging over the trees. The flora in the jungle here is stratified, like a proper rainforest, and seem like they should be incredibly productive, but he'll have to sift through the undergrowth or pick through specific trees in order to find something recognizably edible. Counting the time spent looking around his starting area, Squalo could still have 5 hours left before Day 001.

Day 002
STARTING SQUARE: X.E.12
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
Squalo will go investigate whether the crocodile has left any tracks first. If he does not find anything he can follow, he'll give another try to following the river upstream into the jungle.
Once he reaches the spot where he turned around before, he'll start moving more carefully, and also search around for anything useful or unusual. He's also particularly keeping an eye out for food and/or any fruit that might contain higher amount of water.
He'll keep going until he's halfway through the day or runs into something dangerous or interesting.
no subject
Hour 1: X.E.12 -> X.C.10
Hour 2: X.C.10 -> X.D.8
Hour 3: X.D.8 -> X.D.7 (handful of fish eggs - large, opaque, and gold-tinted)
Hour 4: X.D.7 -> X.D.6 (strange fruit tree - they look almost exactly like blackberries, except each "berry" is the size of a human fist)
Hour 5: X.D.6 -> X.D.5
Hour 6: X.D.5 -> X.E.5 (boar's hoof - still somewhat held together by stripped ligaments)
Hour 7: X.E.5 -> X.E.4 (strange fruit - growing at the edge of the river in the water and suspended over rafts of broad leaves, roughly lime-sized with a soft, fuzzy purple skin)
Hour 8: X.E.4 -> X.F.4 (a small piece of carved ivory - broken to the point where its intended shape can't be determined)
Day 002
Hour 1: X.F.4 -> X.G.3 (popped rubber ball - color and texture are reminiscent of a dodgeball)
Hour 2: X.G.3 -> X.G.2 (4 cucumbers on the vine)
Hour 3: X.G.2 -> X.H.2 (small freshwater eel - still alive and easily grabbable near the riverbank, but it has a ridge of strange, lumpy scales over its back)
Additionally, the river he's been following has been growing steadily narrower and rockier. It's only about ten to fifteen feet wide here and pretty shallow, although the current is, consequently, a lot more aggressive. He could probably cross here or upstream without too much difficulty.
There are 5 hours remaining before Night 002.

Day 003
STARTING SQUARE: VI.H.29
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS: Drinking some more water and eating another "blackberry" before continuing onwards! He's determined to reach the source of the river.
He'll continue following it the best he can, but he won't outright climb cliffs, instead looking for alternative paths up and deviating a bit from the stream if necessary but looking for it again afterwards.
He's alert and he'll be paying attention to search around as he moves - once again looking for anything that might be useful, edible , unusual or any combination of those. He'll keep moving until around midway through the day again.
no subject
Morning 003
Hour 1 - 2: VI.H.29 -> VI.H.28 (decently-sized water bug)
Hour 3 - 4: VI.H.28 -> VI.I.28 (four bundles of water mint)
Hour 5 - 6: VI.I.28 -> VI.J.28
Thankfully it looks like Squalo has reached the crest of this section of mountain. There's a decently-sized section of rolling hills to the north, rising precipitously to another set of mountain peaks hidden behind the morning fog.
Squalo has found his river source and now has 2 hours remaining before Day 003.

Day 004
STARTING SQUARE: VI.T.30
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
Continuing east all morning, trying to keep to the direction he heard the announcements coming from. He tries to move carefully and stay attentive as he's been informed about crossbow-wielding locals by Shaw; he's also keeping an eye out for anything odd or useful, especially food as he's probably about to run out of the weird fruits he picked earlier.

Hour 1: VI.T.30 -> VI.U.30 (six clumps of blackberries)
Hour 2: VI.U.30 -> VI.V.30
Hour 3: VI.V.30 -> VI.W.30 (small travel bottle - empty, unlabeled)
Hour 4: VI.W.30 -> VI.X.30 (three cherries)
Squalo has 4 hours remaining before Day 004.

Day 009
STARTING SQUARE: VI.H.29
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
He'll sleep one extra hour into the morning, then spend a couple hours looking around the stream for breakfast - he'll check if there are any fish in the river; if not, he'll look for fruit, vegetables, or any other huntable looking animals.
Adding that he'll be moving gradually downriver while also looking for a reasonable place to cross it.
no subject
Starting Square: VI.H.29
Ending Square: X.H.1
Duration: 8 hours
General Search Results:
Squalo does find some fish in the river, and without too much difficulty is able to capture four medium-sized bass-type fish while he travels. The river is easily crossable at any point along this leg of his travels.

Day 011
STARTING SQUARE: IX.X.11
ENDING SQUARE: IX.T.9
DETAILS:
He meets up with Senku and heads to the longhouses to drop off the loot! They might hang out for a bit but he'll probably get some food and water and pass out for the rest of the day.
IC DATES: Day 011
STARTING SQUARE: IX.T.9
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
Work time! In the morning he'll go check out the fishing weir IX.EE.11 and haul any fish he finds back to the camp. After that (and hopefully some breakfast), he'll be scouring along the beach/treeline roughly along the way of IX.V.8 - IX.W.10 - IX.X.11 - IX.Y.11 - IX.Z.9, looking for thin trees and young shoots to cut down with his axe, that Team Science could use to fashion a ladder!
At the same time, he'll also be looking for sturdier, straight-looking trees that could be used for their quest to build a raft. He'll come back for them later as ladder is the priority, but depending how long it takes he might return to chop some down on the same day!
no subject
Starting Square: IX.X.11
Ending Square:
Duration: 96 hours
General Search Results:
Squalo finds two medium-sized fish caught in the fishing weir, and thanks to his axe, has an easy time harvesting a decent amount of small and sturdy trees for his ladder- and raft-building quests. The small trees will take him most of Day 011, but he can scout for the larger ones to cut down in future as well.
(no subject)
Day 012
STARTING SQUARE: IX.T.9
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
He'll be following a similar path to Day 011, but go a little deeper into the jungle (by like, one square) in the search of seaworthy looking trees! (He doesn't actually have any experience with seafaring, but he assumes straight, certain thickness trees would do fine!) His aim is to find 10-15 such trees (depending on size) and cut them down, which he probably won't achieve in a day, so he'll just be trying to make some progress on it. He plans to gradually move the logs near the river, most likely around IX.DD.12 so that it's not far from the water.
He'll probably spare at least ~3 hours of the day for exploration with Team Science but I'm still hashing that one out :')
no subject
Starting Square: IX.T.9
Ending Square: IX.DD.12
Duration: 24 hours
General Search Results:
Considering his searching with Team Science and the number of trees he's knocking down/dragging halfway across the tile, he'll only manage to get about halfway to his tree-cutting goal during this time period.
(no subject)
Day 013
STARTING SQUARE: IX.T.9
ENDING SQUARE: IX.W.12
DETAILS:
He'll be going basement spelunking with Team Science in the hotel as detailed by Randvi!
First he'll be trying to take in the overall floor plan - if there are any doors, exits etc, can they be opened, are there any noticeable vents or pipes running through it and similar.
Then he'll look for anything like cabinets etc -- considering it looks like a utility cellar, he'd expect there to possibly be some chemicals or tools and parts that could potentially be used.
Basically getting a general overview of the place before he can choose anything to get a closer look at!

Day 014 ->
STARTING SQUARE: IX.T.9
ENDING SQUARE: Aiming for Taissa, Chloe, and the Cat's camp at VII.S.3
DETAILS: Travelling with K.
Squalo will get up a couple hours before the morning and try to finish up his logging adventure (if he didn't manage to get all the trees down the previous day) while K is preparing. (Squalo's "preparations" are basically only filling his plastic bottle with water.) I imagine he probably won't have enough time to move all the logs, so good luck with that, Randvi!
Squalo will try to keep to the routes he took last time, mostly following along the river and circling south of the mountain so they can move faster, and try to make sure they are nearby the previously established camps around nighttime. Mostly I imagine they'll want to prioritize travel speed, but they might spend an hour or two in the evenings looking for edible fruit or fish.
Also as Moz mentioned, they'll be giving the Death Cabin a wiiiide circle this time (though Squalo will probably memorize the approximate direction/location in case he wants to check it out later...)
He'll be keeping alert for anything that seems dangerous, and once they reach previously unvisited areas with vegetation that could be hiding bear traps, he'll be using the blunt end of his makeshift spear as a walking stick to check the path ahead.

Day 017
STARTING SQUARE: VII.S.3
ENDING SQUARE: VII.C.25
DETAILS:
Squalo is traveling with K, Chloe, Taissa and Cat. He is most likely one of the two people carrying the stretcher, while as mentioned in K's post whoever isn't will take over the trap checking duty.
He's still amped up with manic paranoia from the night before and will be extremely tense throughout the trip, paying extra attention to everything around them. They'll probably try giving the death cabin an even wider berth this time but as they're made aware of the incoming storm, he'll (unhappily) lead them toward Martin's Jail for shelter, as he's been there before and knows where it is.
Then he'll probably proceed to be mildly psychotic and stand guard by the door with the axe ready while the storm rages, though he'll most likely end up passing out into K's care after a day or two of that.

Day 018-020
STARTING SQUARE: VII.C.25
ENDING SQUARE: VII.C.25
DETAILS:
Still with K and company!
As detailed before, he'll mostly be mildly insane and pretty much continuously stand guard near the entrance to the building -- inside for the most part, but he will likely venture out for a bit when Chloe does, to keep an eye on her and their surroundings for any potential dangers the best he can in the shitty weather.
Somewhere between Night 19 and Day 20 he'll finally pass out from sheer exhaustion and subsequently be taken care of by K.

Day 021-023
STARTING SQUARE: VII.C.25
ENDING SQUARE: ??? (ultimately aiming for airfield camp at IX.T.9)
DETAILS:
Traveling with K and the gang!
He'll want to take a look at the bird statue while the others check it out, otherwise he's grumpy but slightly less manic than during his forced stay in the shelter. He'll still make sure the person on point is checking for traps, and he keeps his axe on hand just in case he notices anything suspicious. They'll be trying to follow roughly the same path they took to get there.
Once they stop to rest he'll look for food or anything that might be considered useful (including rocks, thanks Senku) as well as check the perimeter and make sure they have watches arranged so that somebody stays up while the rest sleep.

Day 026-027
STARTING SQUARE: IX.T.9
ENDING SQUARE: IX.T.9
DETAILS:
As mentioned, he's gonna snore all through Morning 026 and then finally get to work.
His main goal will be logging some trees again - as before, he'll be mostly focusing along the treeline between columns AA-EE, going deeper into the jungle as needed. He's looking for thicker and medium trees that would match what K would have described to him as needed for a new fishing weir (that may double as a primitive crossing/bridge).
He also wants to get some harpoons ready for Operation Burial At Sea as well as potentially spearing the wild pigs that keep attacking people (sorry Martin) - so he'll also be looking for thinner, young trees, straight offshoots and branches that could be fashioned into simple spears by sharpening (and maybe burning) one end.
He's not in a rush this time, and he will also spare some hours to help around the base with other things if needed (or if something new arises), and return to base to sleep at night, so I expect this will take him several days or more (at least the weir materials part; he'll want to have some spears ready asap in case of boar invasion but he can always make more later).

Day 032 - ???
STARTING SQUARE: VI.T.9
ENDING SQUARE: ???
DETAILS:
It's the day of Operation: Burial At Sea!
He's going to be dumping most of his inventory in Randvi's hangar for safekeeping. Notably he's going to hand his hatchet over to her personally, because he doesn't trust the other residents not to steal it and it's too valuable to risk losing at sea.
The things he's taking along for the trip include:
- stuff he arrived with (minus coat)
- dueling cane, rusted
- wooden spear (carved)
- net
- section of chain
- swimtrunks: dark blue with white flowers, medium-sized (wearing)
- sunglasses (wearing)
He'll also take the following from the communal stash:
- some water containers (with drinkable water)
- plenty of dried fish
- beach umbrella
- beach towel
- his bundle of spears/harpoons crafted for the raft (roughly 10-15 as originally planned, he's leaving the rest for the others in the base for defense against boars and whatever else)
He and Senku (AND DIRK!!) are going to be moving the raft from wherever it's been left last (IX.Z.14?) and get it into the water. They'll follow along the shore until they're roughly in position to head southwest from the airfield, where the mysterious lights had appeared after the storm (Senku has seen/knows the approximate direction/location).
Then they'll be paddling away from the shore, also using the sail if the wind is favorable, and head to try checking out that particular spot!
They will likely pause and not cross if they run into anything that looks like a sudden drop-off (a.k.a. "The Trench"), as that's what Squalo promised to Martin; if that happens, they will likely float in place for a bit and discuss their options first.

Day 034-041
STARTING SQUARE: IX.T.9
ENDING SQUARE: IX.T.9
DETAILS:
Basically he's going to exist around the airfield, help the team with daily tasks and upkeep for the most part, and if anything specific comes up I'll let you know, but for now let's say some of the particular things he tries in no particular order will be;
- make shark fin soup.
- trying to teach James the rat some tricks (playing dead, somersault, maybe sitting on his shoulder if it's not acting too bitey) with positive reinforcement of food. He'll probably try to act out what he wants the rat to do, it will be hilarious to anyone passing by.
- assessing the bungalows to see what sort of repairs they need and maybe talking to K about what he's planning for his carpentry projects; he might continue lumberjack adventures to cut down some more trees, now in the area closest to bungalows.
- see about making some more spears as well, looking for wood in S-V column not too far from the beach this time.
- go for a swim in the ocean if the weather is nice.
- explore the remaining shadowy area on the beach near the airfield in columns N-R and rows 6-8.
- check out the abandoned pool at the hotel ruins and see if it may be possible to clear it out - very slowly getting out the dirty water with one of the canisters they've found or something, look for a drain or something of the sort if possible.
- can't think of anything else for now but might add something later.

Day 043
STARTING SQUARE: II.Q.10
ENDING SQUARE: III.C.22
DETAILS:
Confused and mad like a roughly handled pillowcase full of bees, Squalo makes his way east, swimming around the first enemy river and then continuing down the middle of the beach. He's looking for any landmarks, food, or anything that might get his attention.
